I've got lots of split ends, and it's really bugging me. I used to blow-dry my hair every day, but now I've stopped - however, the split ends are still here! I'm going to get a haircut soon, but how are ways to prevent & treat split ends?

Okay here are some things to do to prevent split ends:
** most importantly... get a trim every 2-3 months.
**NEVER use a brush on wet hair..... use a plastic wide-toothed comb because the brush causes breakage and it contributes to split ends!
** get a blow drier that has hot, warm, and cool settings. Use the warm one...... hot is damaging to your hair because it will dry it out, and cold will take FOREVER to dry!
**towel drying your hair is fine as long as you don't twist the hair in the towel on the top of your head. I read in a magazine that it leads to breakage in the hair! (believe it if you will)
** Last but not least, use a conditioner on your hair every or every other day! =)

I'd say, get a trim to remove all the split ends, then get a shampoo without harsh detergents (Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfate - Ammonium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfate) usually found in health food stores (*I like Alba Botanica) and after showering, while still damp, apply an oil from the ends up to the scalp (*only use a few drops ... depending on length of hair, for example, mine is shoulder length and I use four drops) and then, if possible, let hair air dry. Also, don't brush hair or comb hair too often when it's wet. That can break some strands ... and comb from the ends upwards.
As for oils, I use to use Weleda's Rosemary Oil which had some Peanut Oil in it. It was ten dollars but lasted me a year. Now, I've tried the drugstore carrot oil which was about two-three dollars and it's just as good.

You cannot treat split ends. It's like trying to put a ripped piece of paper together again. Not gonna work. Condition really well and do what your doing stay away from the heat. When you do blow dry your hair use a defuser. May take a bit longer but not so damaging.

First, treating split ends: Go to a salon that uses Lanza products, ask for the 5 step ultimate treatment. Second to protect: when you blowdry, use a product with a thermal protectant in it Paul Mitchell Heat Seal is excellent. If unavailable, also try, Matrix Sleek Iron Smoother.

HAIR SPLIT ENDS
This happens when the hair is exposed to extreme temperatures, not enough oil and lack of nourishment.
Tips 1:
Trim the ends regularly.
Tips 2:
Try not to use hair dryers and hot rollers very often.
Tips 3:
Mix 1 tspn of Castor oil and 1 tspn of Honey together.Apply well to the ends of hair and wash after ½ an hour.
Tips 4:
Take 1tspn of Castor oil, 1 tspn of Mustard oil, and 1 tspn of Olive oil. Mix well and apply on full length of hair, while massaging the scalp also. Cover the head with a hot towel.
Tips 5:
Take 1 tblspn of Almond oil with 1 egg yolk and1 tspn of Honey. Apply well on scalp and hair. Wash after ½ an hour.

Get a haircut and then do not rub your hair dry after a wash. Always pat them dry. Avoid blowdrying and get a regular trim.

putting your hair in a ponytail can cause split ends. i leave a little bit of conditioner in mine. it makes it softer and is actually healthy for your hair. also it helps split ends by keeping your hair moisturized. if u dont like the idea of leaving conditioner in get some spray-in conditioner for your hair.

dont leave your hair down so much. tie it sometimes and leave it down sometimes. if you leave your hair down too much it gets humid and weak which makes split ends since its just hanging around. dont hurt yourself when you brush your hair. if you tie your hair too much it will eventually fall out at a young age cause tying it pulls the roots of your hair.

Well the best way to "treat" them is to cut them . Avoid a lot of daily maintenance and heat.
