Dude, i totally agree with you! If America had not let other cultures influence our food industry we would be eating like turkey and stuffing and gravy all the time. That is almost the only truly 'AMERICAN' food we eat.

There are lots of things...And I don't mean just the typical burger...
Try these on for size:

Waldorf Salad
Ceaser Salad
Thousand Island Dressing
Coleslaw
Southern fried chicken
Boston baked beans
New England Clam Chowder
Lobster Newburg
Oysters Rockefeller
Catfish with Hush Puppies
Seafood Gumbo
Jambalaya
Wild rice
Chicken à la King
Barbecue Sauce
Turkey (the true national bird)
Cranberry sauce
Concord grape jelly
Maple Syrup
peanut butter
Corn, in any way shape or form including popcorn...
and Especially Corn on the Cob!
Corn Relish
Hominy
Fried Green Tomatoes
Succotash
Strawberry Shortcake
Angel Food Cake
Brownies
Devils Food Cake
Pumpkin Pie
Sweet Potato Pie
Pecan Pie
Apple Pie
and all deep dish fruit pies are american inventions
As are meringue pies...
Fruit Cobblers
And most of the candy bars you know of were US creations, nearly all of them back in the depression years
And there are probably hundreds more!
Look into any american cookbook...
And the hamburger IS american, it was invented by a german inmigrant in (I think) New York at the turn of the previous century.
Hot dogs are descendants of german sausages such as Frankfurt and Vienna Wursts which ended up as Franks & Weenies, only the name hot dog is an american tradition)

Corn on the cob. Nobody else ate that first. To this day not many cultures outside the Americas eat whole kernel corn. In fact, in Holland you can get "American Pizza." The "American" comes from a handful of corn used as a topping. Corn in the U.S. is a different plant than other types. It has an outer hull that can be digested without any outside help.

Maybe Hamburgers, Hot dogs, Meatloaf, Fried Okra, Fried Squash, Garden Salads, chef salads, crayfish, buffalo wings, pot roast, mashed potatoes, corn bread, etc.

You must not be from the south. Go to the south and have some good southern cooking.
