This weekend the kittens will be eight weeks old and will have had their first vet appointment. I have homes for all of the kittens but I am wondering how mom cat will react, will she be sad and depressed, act a little crazy, or what. Thanks for any insights.

Mom cat is getting spayed ASAP, I rescued her from a family that was going to put her in a kill shelter. When I took her to get spayed she was already pregnant - I am just thankful that she had a healthy litter with no complications, but this was not my plan when I took in the cat.

In the wild, even before kittens are weaned, they begin to want to explore their world. Once Momma has had enough of the sharp little teeth, and weans them, it is her signal to go out into the world. If you wait until Momma weans them herself, no problems. Otherwise, yeah, she may call for them, or look for them for a day or two, but usually they just assume that kitten has struck off on his own.

I really wish people would keep their idiotic answers about subjects they know nothing about to themselves! The mother cat will not give a rat's behind when her kittens leave her. That said, her kittens should not leave her before 12 weeks of age. That is how long it takes a mother cat to fully wean her kittens, teach them to hunt, groom themselves, use a litterbox, and overall to become well-adjusted and well-behaved cats. It's sort of like when an 18 year old kid goes off to college or gets a full-time job and leaves home. Most parents do the happy-dance as soon as their kid has packed the last of his/her things and moved out! Freedom! Woo Hoo! LOL! Well, a 12 week old kitten is ready to go off into the world and the mother is only too happy to be rid of the little pesky critters. But please leave them with their mom for a full 12-weeks. They will become much better adult cats.

My female cat had three litters. When the kittens left she kind of looked around for them for a day or two but she was fine. The last litter was the largest and she seemed relieved when they were finally all gone.

she'll understand its time for them to leave the nest. when our cat had kittens they stayed with us and never got rehomed. Momma cat became depressed and annoyed with them.

The momma will be really depressed and sad to see her babies gone for a long time.

She probably wont eat or play anymore because of the depression of her kittens are away.

when I did that with my kittens, our momma cat wasnt too upset...instinctively, they seperate themselves from their kittens at that age anyhow so, no hard feelings...shes looking foreward to breeding again. SAVE LIVES, SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PETS.
