.if you already have the car you cant . if your comparing a diesel to a gas engine, the diesel will get 50 % to 60% better mileage than a gas engine. because it is much more efficient to begin with, the diesel spins 40% slower than a gas engine. and the fuel has a higher BTU rating than gas so you go farther between fill ups. also the new diesels burn much cleaner than a gas engine also if you use bio diesel fuel you will remove up to 80% more co2 than a gas engine, also the diesel is a stronger motor and will go much longer before you have to Rebuild it. most all diesels since 1990 and above are turbo charged. you can buy a chip and increase the efficiency of the diesel by another 15% to 25% for$ 400 and that is cheap! DON'T EVER ADD GASOLINE TO A DIESEL MOTOR OR IT WILL SCRAMBLE THE MOTOR!!!! use diesel fuel or bio diesel or used vegetable oil.

You can't. Diesel powered cars get better mileage to start with because the engine is more efficient; also, Diesel fuel has slightly more energy (per unit of volume) than gasoline. Yes, if you can lay hands on a supply of used cooking oil, or other oil, you can (it may need refining first) use it as fuel for a Diesel engine. (Rudolf Diesel's first engine burned powdered coal!)

you cant double it..but you can increase the mileage by adding a turbo-charger unit. the Italians and the french both are building vehicles with this attachment to stretch the diesel out as much as possible.
we were getting about 25 miles per liter running our vehicle wide open in Italy when using this system. that and the automatic over drive unit too.
hope this helps. google the fiat company for more information on the turbo-charged diesel vehicles.

I don't know a way to double your MPG, but I have heard you can buy a kit and get used cooking oil from restaurants, and filter it out really good and you can use that. Mythbusters tried it and the results were similar fuel mileage.

I've heard about choking the motor fuel pump is best recommended.
Also, add some gasoline mixture to the diesel fuel. 10-30% gasoline and 90-70% diesel.
But don't take my words for it as I haven't actually tried them.

Someone might try to sell you a magnet that goes around your fuel line, promising better fuel economy because the molecules are "aligned." It's a gimmick, don't buy it.
