Your parents are your best friends. At least they should be and they have the experience of marriage and all its pitfalls. They also know their children. They should be better placed to select a good partner.

As the saying goes "Love is blind", and we should not blindly jump into selecting our partner all by ourselves. Keeping our eyes and ears open helps avoid future disappointment.

However modern children do not like to use their best resources and think that they themselves can make the best choice. The huge divorce rates and breakups are a testimony to the fact that individuals do not select wisely when it comes to their own marriage. There is no harm in consulting parents and taking their advice. i am not saying that parents should choose without consulting their children. Like wise i suggest that we should give sufficient importance to our parents choices also and then decide who is good for us. It is foolish to completely shut out parents in the decision making process. The ultimate decision may be ours but discussion with an open mind and including parents is a better alternative than going it all alone. When we become emotionally involved, our rational thinking process is definitely affected. An objective view is necessary to put things in proper perspective.

i dont think it is right they should have an opinion on who you marry but not the whole choice should be their!!!!!!!!!!! you choose a guy and let them tell you the rights and wrongs about him. Then work on the( wrongs).you got ot choose who you want to marry because after it all who is the one who has to get married and live with that person

The child is the one that has to live with that person for the rest of their lives. So, I definetely disagree. That would be like an arranged marriage.

I think it is good and bad because you need to choose your spouse.

I totally disagree with that tradition. I think it's absurd!! There is NO reason why you shouldn't be able to pick the person you will have to spend the rest of your life with. Your parents aren't going to be married to them, you will!!!

i generally think the unknown can be romantic but in this case it's hard enough being married to someone you like or love. trust me i speak for experience. my husband and i were best friends and so in love i could not believe it sometimes. now we are barely holding our marriage together. follow your heart it will always steer you the right way.

It all depends on the culture. That sort of thing is expected and accepted in some cultures. However, as an American, I'm glad that I don't have to deal with that.

I think thats stupid and Old fashioned. Only you know who your true love is. And if the parents pick partners, its only for THEIR interest and not yours.

Love is the only thing that will hold a marriage, not interest. And only you can find love.
