I just gave birth 6 weeks ago. Initially I was breastfeeding for about 2-3weeks, my milk supply decreases after that which I stop breastfeeding. My period then came yesterday and I thought would be my normal period? When I was discharged, I wasn't bleeding alot, just discharge (like 3rd-4th day of your period) I had severe bleeding when I gave birth where I lost alot of blood.

Right now, my period is like 2-3 times more than my usual period. I used tampon and have to change like 10 mins after inserting. The bleeding was terrible. It's not continuous though, at certain timing the blood like just rush all out? I had flesh red blood and lots of blood clots. Is this normal? If it is, how long will I have this period?

I think you may be having a Post Partum Hemorrhage. It is NOT NORMAL to bleed that much. Get to the hospital immediately. Call 911 if you have to.

Edit;
It is the slow trickle of blood that can be very deceiving. It adds up to a serious blood loss over several hours. At least contact your doctor and ask him or her what to do.

Most periods after giving birth are far more than what you are used too. But if you are bleeding that much and clotting I would call your doctor or talk to a nurse in the ER by phone and just see if it a concern. They should tell you real quick if you are safe or not. It was good that you took the tampon out, don't put it back it. I know it's gross but healthier right now. I hope you have already made that call!

Well, I'll tell you I had some really bad bleeding too. And I passed a lot of disgusting clots that I worried about. The doctors office told me, if I'm going trough a pad an hour for several hours call back. And like you, it never kept going, just on and off. I suggerst not wearing tampons. Your flow is probably too much for them.

your body changes alot after you have a baby and it could jjust be your period cycle tryiing to get back on track or it could be just from stress i was haveing the same thing a coupple of weks ago and was also haveing clots.if you are feeling like you are going to faint i think you should go to the ER but if you are not feeling faint i dont think yoou need to worry because if it wasent blood that you were loseing from your period you would have fainted within a day or so if even that.they say that if you are soaking 3 pads in a hour then you need to go to the Er that is what i was told any ways.

A very heavy period first period after having a baby is normal. I was always told if clots are bigger than a lemon, to call right away. If you are still concerned, you should call your doctor to be 100% sure. You probably shouldn't use a tampon just yet. Everything is still trying to heal.

your first period after birth can be heavier than usual dont know how long it will last for you but see a doctor if it continues when i had my daughter it was a couple of weeks but when i had my son i bled for about 7 months with only a few days off a month.......bloody awful (forgive the pun)there is a tablet you can get from your doctor(forget the name) which slows it down always best to check though =0

first off, you should still be using pads, at least for the first period. Secondly, if you are soaking more than 1 pad per hour, it is serious. I would seriously contact your doctor or go to the ER immediately. This sounds like you could be hemoraging.

if you were breast feeding and it postponed your period it would naturally be heavier and also your first period after you have your baby is usually going to be heavier too. My doctor told me not to use tampons too....you should call your doc and ask him how much bleeding is normal. if i remember correctly if you soak one pad (for heavy bleeding) an hour for a few hours then you need to call a doctor....but you should call your doc and ask
