get to the vet pronto. it may not be behavioral, she may have a urinary tract infection. if she passes her pee test then speak with your vet about what may be best to break this nasty habbit. a product called Felaway may help (petsmart, petco). Please NEVER starve your cat as a punishment, their minds just DO NOT work that way!! Good luck!

Keep the litter box clean. Place the kitten in the clean litter box when it finishes eating or drinking.
See a vet if this doesn't work, because once they start peeing in other places, they more than likely will not be broken of the habit. Take the time to pay attention now, or you will have a big problem.

The spot next to the litter box has been marked in kitten's mind as the potty spot for him/her. So the only way to break this behavior is to move the litter box and put something over that spot that makes it difficult to pee there again (like the jug of kitty litter).

Put the litter box inside a cardboard box that has a doorway cut into it. Kitty will go in to a nice, dark, adventurous place and explore.

Most importantly, make sure you keep the litter impeccably clean and use the finer clumping litter and not the more coarse scooping litter. Kittens like the feel of sand and will play in it. If they don't like the feel of your current litter, they won't go in it. Also make sure that the sides of the current litter box aren't so high that it's hard for kitten to crawl in...also a deterrent to good behavior.

Change the litter more often or change to a plain clay litter. Put your kitten in the box and rub its tummy. Do like the other person said and also clean the soiled area with bleach water. Good luck. A kitten really shouldn't be doing this. Are there other cats. Maybe the kitten needs its own litter box.

Is she a small kitten ? has she used the litter box ? both things to think about if she used it & started to pee outside it the litter box maybe to big for her to climb into if Not then just pick her up and keep puting her in the litter box and she will get the idea after a couple of times once she goes the first time in box then she will pick up her own scent & go back to use it cats really are pretty smart i should know Meow

I had this problem....
Covered litter box, then they think they are having fun going into a little hiding place to pee. If they miss, it hits the sides and stays inside the box.

Watch closely when you are at home. Follow the cat in, and if it starts to go outside the box, just pick it up and put it inside. Somehow she got a little confused and thinks that's how she's supposed to do it. Just catch her in the act and place her inside right away. It will only take once or twice. Nothing's wrong with her; she's just confused. Thing is, you have to really watch her and be on the ball about it.
