Phone the local animal shelter and give them the list of what you want in a dog. I am sure they can match you up with the perfect pet. You will also have the added bonus of your pet being already spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and housebroken.

Dogs that bark only a little? Dogs who shed only a little? Are you sure you want a dog? Dogs are not pets, they are companions. If you have the dog's interest at heart, adopt one who really needs you.
Lest you end up taking a dog TO the shelter b/c it did not meet your unrealistic expectations, a Besinje does not bark and a poodle does not shed b/c they have hair, not fur. I suppose you could ask someone to "make" you a dog that mixes these two- people are doing all kinds of ridiculous $hit like that now.
I suggest that you skip getting a dog.

A labrador Retriver. i have one, she only barks when a car pulls up that she does not know, if she knows the car and person she just wags her tails and comes flying up to us. They are so sweet. here is some info on the best dogs, in my mind.
General Appearance
The Labrador Retriever is a strongly built, medium-sized, short-coupled, dog possessing a sound, athletic, well-balanced conformation that enables it to function as a retrieving gun dog; the substance and soundness to hunt waterfowl or upland game for long hours under difficult conditions; the character and quality to win in the show ring; and the temperament to be a family companion. Physical features and mental characteristics should denote a dog bred to perform as an efficient Retriever of game with a stable temperament suitable for a variety of pursuits beyond the hunting environment. The most distinguishing characteristics of the Labrador Retriever are its short, dense, weather resistant coat; an ''otter'' tail; a clean-cut head with broad back skull and moderate stop; powerful jaws; and its ''kind,'' friendly eyes, expressing character, intelligence and good temperament. The typical Labrador possesses style and quality without over refinement, and substance without lumber or cloddiness. The Labrador is bred primarily as a working gun dog; structure and soundness are of great importance.

Owning
The Labrador Retriever is gentle with children and the elderly. If it is intended as a pet, keep in mind that Labrador puppies are full of energy. The Labrador Retriever has a stable temperament and adapts to new surroundings easily. The Labrador Retriever is not an aggresive dog, but it will bark to ward off strangers.

Temperament
True Labrador Retriever temperament is as much a hallmark of the breed as the ''otter'' tail. The ideal disposition is one of a kindly, outgoing, tractable nature; eager to please and non-aggressive towards man or animal. The Labrador has much that appeals to people; his gentle ways, intelligence and adaptability make him an ideal dog.

There are some kinds of dogs that don't bark at all like Basingi (sp?), with the short hair, and if raised right can be good with families and kids. Dogs of a specific breed can be expensive, you can always go down to your local shelter and find a mixed breed dog that fits your needs.

We have Blue Heelers and they are great dogs. They are great with my kids (a 3 year old boy and a 17 month old girl). They are the best dogs that I have ever had. I have had many different breeds of dogs over the years and I don't think that I will ever get a different breed than what I have now. Good luck finding the perfect dog for you and your family.

I would go to your local Humane Society or a Rescue and get a dog there. Alot of dogs in there need a home.

Bichon Frises are small dogs. They are pretty friendly, and the great thing about them is that they don't shed a whole lot, if at all. I know a family who has one: the doggy is pretty hyper though, but is still friendly.

Go to a local shelter and find an animal who really needs you. You will find the one for you because you will develop a personal relationship. And they become the most loving and grateful pets!
