Since the story goes that Adam was just an unwitting pawn in the Snake and Eve's attempt at gaining knowledge, isn't it more likely that what really happened was Adam set up Eve? Maybe he said things like "Boy, I sure could go for an apple." He could also have blamed the snake later on. Who's going to believe a stupid snake anyway?
OR maybe Eve and the Snake had a thing going on the side (use your imagination) and Adam was jealous. Then it was just a case of 'If I can't have her, you can't either."
I just think Adam is getting off a little light in the original scenario.

Yes, exactly. Especially since this whole story is a made up parable designed to keep people from asking too many questions in Christianity. Patriarchial religious leaders also saw it as a way to keep women subservient.

Does anyone really believe that someone wasn't going to mess up at SOME point in the Garden of Eden?! Or that a snake was talking to them? Additionally, who exactly was recording this stuff since Adam and Eve were the only people around at that point? Uh-huh.

Adam was not an unwitting pawn, the original language suggests that during the entire exchange between the serpent and Eve, Adam was right there next to her. He sinned by choosing to distrust and disobey God just like Eve did. Only his sin was greater, because as his helpmate, Eve was his charge, he was to protect and care for her.

Adam did not get off light. It was his responsibility to have made sure Eve knew the rules also after she failed he still could have Narked on her and the snake instead of Joining in the sin. Later he was the FIRST to try to COVER it up. He messed up all around and was punished even more severly. The bible says it is THRU ADAM that sin entered this world how would you like to go through all eternity with everyone going. Gee thanx Adam because of YOU I had to deal with sin. That is one REAL HARSH Punishement. (thankfully with Jesus Death even HIS sin was washed away but for a few thousand years before Jesus Death I can imagine everyone who died and went to heaven the first thing they wanted to do was go and beat up Adam for "condemning them all to sin")

"Who's going to believe a stupid snake anyway?"

The snake's defense doesn't appear in the Biblical text. Adam blames the woman. The woman blames the snake. God curses the snake immediately.

i think the bible is correct in saying that eve wanted the apple, the snake tricked her, and adam didn't know about it being from the tree they weren't supposed to eat from. he was innocent, but he should've asked eve where it was from. plus he sinned because he blamed eve. always take responsibility! =)

I'm still surprised Eve didn't pin the blame on Adam.

You are the reason stories seem to change as time goes on. The story is as basic and truthful as it needs. Everyone has a fault in it. Isn't it more likely you completely missed the point of the story.

I don't think he gets off light... he loses his immortality and is kicked out of paradise....

The snake is forced to eat dust, apparently, and the woman has to go through the pains of child birth every time she fornicates...

sounds like everyone involved probably regretted that incident.

It certainly seems like it could be possible, since Adam acted like a naive little boy

History is written by the winners and since woman is always painted as the temptress, this scenario could work just as well.
