Isn't time that we put an end to the ill affects of second hand smoke? It would be interesting to learn how many die yearly due to second hand smoke...

~I'll agree to your ban if you will agree to the enactment of the following national bans that I want:

1. Ban on people who don't wear deodorant.
2. Ban on cashiers who chew gum and roll their eyes when your item doesn't have a bar code on it.
3. Ban on golfers who get mad, curse and have temper tantrums on the course. (Like it's everybody else's fault they missed their shot.)
4. Ban on anyone who rolls their eyes and says "whatever."
5. Ban on women who wear so much makeup they have to use a chisel to get it off.
6. Ban on door-to-door salespeople of any kind. That includes Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, magazines, vacuum cleaners, etc.
7. Ban on men who scratch, wiggle or grab their balls in public, including golf courses, baseball fields, basketball courts, etc.
8. Ban on computers that have replaced receptionists for corporations.
9. Ban on media promoting anything geared toward teenagers with models that look anorexic or drug induced.
10. Ban on people who don't respect the legal rights of others.

Honestly, cigarettes should have been taken off the market years ago. I've seen products banned for much less. There is absolutely no doubt that they cause hundreds of thousands of deaths a year---never mind the associated health care costs. This isn't even counting second-hand smoke. Banning cigarettes would never work, of course. There'd be a black market; it would be like Prohibition all over again.
If cigarettes are going to remain legal, then I think you need to let people smoke them, if they're stupid enough to want to, or so addicted that they can't stop.
And, hey, theevilfez--doesn't a person have a right to breathe clean, healthy air? Aren't you infringing on that person's right?

I smoke but I try to careful about where I do smoke. All I ask is a place where I can smoke and not offend anyone. Even if it is a parking lot in my car. Smoking areas need to be marked and ventilated. You might be surprised by how Many smokers do not try to offend. I do go to restaurants with no smoking areas. I like to eat without people smoking next to me. This will sound cliche but I do think we can all get along.

IF you do not wish to smell my smoke, goto a smoke free restraunt to eat, goto a smoke free bar to drink, goto a smoke free club to dance, goto a smoke free land, this is the United States of America and I have a right to smoke.
You have a right not to smoke and a right not to sit where someone is smoking but if you happen to sit next to me, it is also your choice to remain sitting or leave.

Works for me! It's one of the reasons I don't go to bars (that, and there's drunks there...lol). I loved it in Cali when I was there on business. Fabulous....could go anywhere and not gag....well, except LA...whoa, smog city.
