What would cause butternut squash to have a thick pasty consistency?

Butternut squash has its own cornstarch. The same as if I would make some gravies and I need them thickened then I would add some cornstarch.

Before or after cooking? Before- overripe or underripe... After- overcooking or too-dry cooking... Hope this helps!

It's probably over ripe and not good to eat.

Maybe it didn't have enough water when it was growning.
