Yes before she gets any older. Our Yorkie was never spayed and she got breast cancer when she was 11. The vet said it never would have happened if she had been spayed when she was younger. Everything turned out okey but it cost 1200. It was only 50 to spay so you do the math

Yes, absolutely, immediately.

Dog overpopulation is the responsibility of every dog owner to deal with. Until you spay or neuter your dog, you are part of the problem, not the solution.

Pet overpopulation is no joke. Six pets are put to sleep every MINUTE (3-4 million a year) because they can't find homes.

Spaying, even at 5 years old would be a good decision - it will prevent pregnancy and will also prevent cancers that can grow from the organs that will be removed, such as ovarian cancer.

If you don't want any puppies, then yes. Dog spayed can develop health problems if they aren't spayed and never have puppies. Also, heat is distressful and unnecessary if you never intend to breed her.

If she is healthy and you never want her to have puppies, then yes I would have her spayed. I am told that they will live longer that way. If that is true or not I don't really know. I would however take my vets advice on it.

first off, 5 years old for a dog that small is not old, little dogs live longer, some up to 20yrs. get it fixed unless you are planning to breed. spaying/nuetering animals actually saves them from possible dieases (ie testicular cancer, etc.)

I personally feel that your dog is too old to go through a surgery like that. She'll stop going into heat soon anyway.

You didn't indicate if it was male or female but I would say yes. Male dogs produce more puppies and there are too many unwanted puppies out there.
