there are many symptoms, if you experience only ONE, is it still TIA? I experienced a very short period of confusion and inability to understand language. No numbness, no dizziness, nothing else, and I had been under extreme emotional distress for 2 days. Should I be slightly concerned or pretty concerned?

Yes, you should see a doctor! I have an autoimmune clotting disorder and have TIAs all the time.

A transient ischemic attack (TIA) is a transient stroke that lasts only a few minutes. It occurs when the blood supply to part of the brain is briefly interrupted. TIA symptoms, which usually occur suddenly, are similar to those of stroke but do not last as long. Most symptoms of a TIA disappear within an hour, although they may persist for up to 24 hours.

Symptoms can include:
*numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body
*confusion or difficulty in talking or understanding speech trouble seeing in one or both eyes
*difficulty with walking
*dizziness
*loss of balance and coordination

TIAs are often warning signs that a person is at risk for a more serious and debilitating stroke. About one-third of those who have a TIA will have an acute stroke some time in the future. Many strokes can be prevented by heeding the warning signs of TIAs and treating underlying risk factors. The most important treatable factors linked to TIAs and stroke are high blood pressure, cigarette smoking, heart disease, carotid artery disease, diabetes, and heavy use of alcohol. Medical help is available to reduce and eliminate these factors. Lifestyle changes such as eating a balanced diet, maintaining healthy weight, exercising, and enrolling in smoking and alcohol cessation programs can also reduce these factors.

This could be something as simple as a pinched nerve but none of us are medical professional or if we are can do a proper exam. So, please see your doctor ASAP.

YOU NEED TO SEE YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE OR GO TO THE ER IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN!
A transient ischemic attack (TIA, often colloquially referred to as "mini stroke") is caused by the temporary disturbance of blood supply to a restricted area of the brain, resulting in brief neurologic dysfunction that usually persists for less than 24 hours.
Symptoms vary widely from person to person depending on the area of the brain involved. The most frequent symptoms include temporary loss of vision (typically amaurosis fugax), difficulty speaking (dysphasia), weakness on one side of the body (hemiparesis), numbness usually on one side of the body, and loss of consciousness. If there are neurological symptoms persisting for more than 24 hours, it is classified as a cerebrovascular accident (stroke).
Patients diagnosed with a TIA are sometimes said to have had a warning for an approaching cerebrovascular accident. If the time period of blood supply impairment lasts more than a few minutes, the nerve cells of that area of the brain die and cause permanent neurologic deficit. One third of the people with TIA later have recurrent TIAs and one third have a stroke due to permanent nerve cell loss.

Yes, yes and yes. Most importantly, you need to seek medical advice. I have had many TIA s and my new Dr. is the only professional that has run more tests on me to determine the cause than any Dr. I had seen in when I was admitted to the hospital with the first TIA. We need to start a support group on FB about this subject. Everyone agree???

Mental stress has physical implications, including impaired sleeping habits, hives/rashes, inability to concentrate, and yes it is posssible to suffer a heart attack if the circumstances are just right. You don't die from stress itself, but the symptoms that manifest. You should not worry. You personally I mean. I think your mom just wants you to take it seriously and take care of yourself. Deep slow breaths will re-center you a lot. You are busy now finishing up school, and you have a busy life. Take time to relax your brain and your body will follow. I promise.
