Do you pay for a hotel bill at check-in or check-out?

You can pay either way. If you're staying just one night, it may be easier to pay at check-in, that way you won't have to stop by the front desk on your way out. I think most hotels would prefer that if one is paying in cash, to pay up front, especially if they don't have a credit card readily available.

If you are staying a few days and have a credit card...you will be able to pay at the end of your stay when you check out. You can also get an Express Checkout where they place a bill under your door and you don't even have to go to the front desk. Just call down to the front desk to tell them you're leaving and your card is charged then. If you are paying cash...most places would want you to pay as you go. If you miss a day, some hotels my lock you out of your room so you'll have to go to the front desk to be get your keys re-keyed.

If you are staying at a hotel, you'll have to either put down a credit card or a deposit in order to use the phones (local calls are free) or rent in-room movies.

You pay for your full stay on the last morning usually. They will slip a bill under your door, and a lot of hotels now have it where you can pay through their television circuits so you don't have to mess with any lines at the front desk. =)

Most hotels require a credit card at checkin to cover the anticipated charges of your stay. If you do not use a credit card, they will require cash in advance, for at least the first day, and then each day thereafter.
