I homeschool and I am doing a state notebook for our history class. We live in Illinois. What would be some good questions for a test and what are some geographical locations I can put on the test? I would appreciate any help I can get.

What age?

Some things all kids should know (IMO):

State capital, and location.
Your county
County seat
All surrounding counties
All surrounding states

For IL it should also include
Chicago, Lake Michigan, Mississippi River

Those are a minimum.

It also depends on what history you're doing. Native Americans and their locations may be appropriate.
Early settlers...where they settled (Fox River?, Charles River?) Why they settled there (for example, fur trappers, traders may have settled near rivers)

You live in Illinois and you don't know any geographical locations? How about getting out the atlas and looking up your state to find some. How about contacting your local Chamber of Commerce, or your Tourist Bureau, and asking them?
How about even using a search engine, like Wikipedia, Yahoo or Google?
If I do the work for you, do I get half the marks? If I do the work for you, do you learn anything at all from the exercise?
That's not what homeschooling is all about, and we both know it.
