I do believe they are but I know they salt cure them for packaging. I can't stand them myself, unless it's in a ceaser salad. but I never knew they were there until I fell in love with the salad.

they live in salt water but they are not salty .. that is a man made process. Salt acts as a curring agent on fish and all meats.fish have been salted down to preserve them for at least 10.000 years.. I can't stand anchovies on my pizza or anything else. the one thing they are good for is they make wonderful fishing bait..
