They need a lot of attention and exercise. By the time he's six months old, make sure he's getting at least a thirty-minute walk every day. When he's full-grown, it will have to be a thirty minute strenuous run - but not in the heat of the day! With their pushed-in faces, Boxers can have trouble breathing and cooling themselves. They can even collapse and die if you're not careful! A lot of chewing and bad behavior is from pent up enery and boredom.

Dogs, especially high-energy dogs like Boxers, often steal things and chew them up to get your attention. He'll hang his head when you yell at him because he knows you are angry, NOT because he understands what he did wrong.

Show him one item that he usually chews up - if he tries to take it, tell him "NO!" and give him a jerk on the leash. Then take him to his dog toy, get him all excited and tell him "GOOD BOY!" when he takes his toy. Practice this every day with items that he is and isn't supposed to have. When he is perfect, you can drop the leash and let him drag it around - but keep him confined to the room that you are in, so you can keep an eye on him and correct him if he makes a mistake.

Boxers may destroy all their toys and swallow pieces which can cause an obstruction in their intestines. Get sturdy dog bones like Nylabones and PRESSED rawhdies; and tough toys like the X-treme Kongs and hard rubber balls too big for them to swallow should last a long time. There's a new thing called the Hurley toy & the Huck ball that are supposed to be tough, but I haven't used one personally.

They are powerful dogs that need early training before they get too strong for you. When he's a puppy, keep him in a dog crate anytime you can't supervise him. Keep him on a leash at all times and tie the end to your belt so you can supervise and train him. Keep only two dog toys out at any one time. If a dog has too many toys, he will think that everything loose in the house belongs to him. You need to teach him that everything loose in the house belongs to YOU.

They can be stubborn about obeying you - read some great books on training. (Try not to pick books randomly - there are a lot of bad books out there also!) These are some of my favorites and you can get them on Amazon.com

You're definately going to want to childproof your house. Your dog will get into anything an infant could, and more. They're curious, just like people.

Additionally, I can guarantee he'll chew things. But, if you pick things up (i.e., shoes,) and give him something acceptabel to chew on, it will be less of a problem.

Potty training is another issue. The best way to handle that is by giving him as much "outside time" as possible. Once he gets used to doing his business in the grass, he'll learn to look for grass. Then, stay on a regular bathroom break schedule, so he never has to hold it for an extended period of time.

Also remember that dogs and puppies usually get in trouble when they're bored. So, play with him as often as possible! Keep him active and his brain in gear, or kiss your slippers goodbye!

The same as a child! Only children wear diapers.
Potty train, demanding attention, getting into everything, chewing (teething). Just about anything!

A big pile of poop. If your dog could speak it would say something like, "Hey pal, leave me alone! I'm looking for something for me to poop on!"
