Many atheists claim that Christians get upset when they say they don't believe in God. I have never become upset because someone tells me that God doesn't exist. . .I don't agree but I don't get upset I say let them believe what they want.

I don't become upset but I have met Christians who do. This is kind of like many of the terrorist of the world today who say you must believe in Allah or die. I don't think Christians want to be like that however if you love someone you can't let another person say they don't exist. I would just state they are putting their own life on the line because you know the truth and walk away. The Holy Spirit works on people we are just tools to help with that process.

Most atheists claim this is a defensive manner. "Well, I do NOT believe in God." They employ the use of sarcasm and act affronted. However, some just simply state their beliefs. For the former, some Christians may be offended, but overall I think many are sad, angry, or frustrated at this. Anger means fear, and I think we as Christians are afraid for these people, or that we aren't fulfilling our Christian duty to witness. For the latter, then I can't see any reason why someone would be offended, except for lack of understanding of other people and their thought process, backround, and other such things that affect personal beliefs.

I never get upset at that why should I it is not ME they are denying it is God. Now if they said they don't believe in ME that would be different story LOL God can take care of himself. Besides there is no such thing as a person who doesn't believe in GOD they may not believe that God has an interest in them or may believe Other stories about God or may even worship a different God (usually the God of Selfishness) but we all believe in some Other.

Upset as in mad, no.
Upset as in sad, yes.

I truly feel sorry for them that they do not believe.

I respect other people, what they believe or do not believe is their business.

If time permits & depending on who the person is & the nature &/or mood of the conversation, I will ask them why they don't believe & explain why I do believe.

I do not get on a soap box, I do not preach, I have a civilized 2-way conversation...however many people do not want to discuss it further, so I won't.

I then pray to God that somehow what we discussed will somehow help this person...or in the case of no discussion, I pray that somehow this person or people will come to know God.

A Christian should never be offended and they should never act enraged, after all God teaches us through the Bible that we are to love one another & if we get offended or enraged, what type of Christian example are we setting?

Blessings () ;-)

I'm not offended at all. They were given the ability to choose just like I was. But there are Christians who get judgmental and go on a tirade about how atheists are going Hell because they don't believe in God. I'm just not one of those Christians that feels the need to convert everyone I meet. If they ask, I'll share. Otherwise, I leave them alone because I want them to leave me alone.

I am not offended by someone that says that they don't believe in God, but I am offended by people that say "There is no God." There is a big difference in my opinion. You don't find many people that simply say, "I don't believe in God," which is a statement of opionion, and in that I can't be upset. I actually respect people that can say that, especially in person, because a lot of people judge atheists very harshly in the neo-con age. However, saying "There is no God" which a lot of people (especially on Y! Questions) do, isn't so much a statement of opinion as it is an attempt to insult my opinion.

Just my opinion though.

I agree that I they can believe as they want to. I used to get offended, but I have realized that God will give them what is theirs when there is a judgement day. I deal with this a lot since many of the uneducated of the world criticize Catholics for their beliefs, when in truth they are criticizing because of their ignorance in the beliefs of Catholics. Atheist could possibly change their views on christianity if they just gave us a chance to explain to them our beliefs and let us teach them why we feel the way we do instead of just automatically brushing us of as incorrect.

No! ..You have the wrong misconceptions!...Christians don't get upset when atheists choose to believe "there is no GOD"!....That's your rightful Beliefs!........But what christians do get upset & offended about IS WHEN YOU ATHEISTS TRY TO FORCE YOUR UNBELIEFS ON CHRISTIANS!.......why? because you have No Right To Do That!............. coming against the GOD the Believers serve is not RESPECTFUL!...........It goes like this, everyone has a right to believe whatever they want to believe!...But when it comes to Disrespecting, Harassing, Condemning, Judging, And INSULTING The Christians GOD...Then, That's where the Problems Begin!.....And I might add that you atheists log onto to this religious/spiritual site for the WRONG REASONS!...To Condemn, Judge, Harass, Mock, Disrespect, And Insult Christians Believers Just Because You Don't Believe and Have No Fellowship With GOD!.......Why log onto this religious/spiritual site?......You're Proving yourself to Be VINDICTIVE & STIRRING UP STRIFE! ( 2 Tim.2: 23) & (Matt. & 7: 6).......Otherwise you would be Logging Onto Another Site!...Why Pick A Religious/Spiritual Site!........

No, sometimes I ask them what kind of God that they do not believe in. Many times I do not believe in that God myself. A lot of non believers in God have a wrong concept of God. They have never been told about the God of unconditional Love who is infinite Spirit.

Many of these people have been abused by religious types and have a justifiable reason for their beliefs. I will not add to their hurt.

No because most of us all came from backgrounds like that. We understand. The ones that get upset are weaker in the faith and do not know how to stand on the truth they say they believe. I would not listen to them... focus on someone more mature to lead and guide you. They know that they are supposed to give an answer to all who ask and they are suppose to give that answer with kindness and a gentle spirit. If they do not... then they hurt the Christian cause and the Lord through their actions and cause others to stumble and walk away. Not good.
