Unfortunately it sounds as if you will have to have the tooth pulled by the dentist. As far as which foods to avoid is difficult as you know what feels okay and what hurts. For me personally warm foods helped, soup, hot tea and such. Some people I have heard feel better with ice cream and cold foods. Its what works best for you. Also try to put a clove on your tooth which will kind of numb the area. There are also medications over the counter you can buy to put on your tooth to numb. It sounds as if your wisdom tooth is cutting through the gum line and trying to push your other teeth around to make room. Good luck.

You need to have that wisdom tooth pulled!! Period. That is the nature of the wisdom tooth---they hurt like hell for a week or so, then, it lies dormant for a few months. But, the pain always comes back worse!!! Eventually, the pain and swelling is gonna come back so strong and hard--you won't be able to take it, and you will find yourself RUNNING to your dentist for an emergency extraction! OUCH!!!! I'm tellin' you, get it extracted before it gets that bad, friend. Peace.

That wisdom tooth needs to belong to someone else or needs to be in your pocket.
Have it removed.
In the mean time oil of cloves available over the counter at your CVS will help with the pain....
