I think I might have OCD. I worry about it a lot and I want to go to a doctor, but I am too afraid. Can you please tell me the symptoms of OCD. Thank you.

ocd is characterized by recurring, unwanted ideas and by persistent urges to repeat an act over and over like washing hands frequently checking several times whether the door has been locked or not or touching current poles while walking any act which is done irrationally .Freud called this anxiety hysteria.some patients report with both grim humor and no littler horror that they keep thinking,"what if i grab up a butcher knife and kill my mother?
' she quickly protests that she and her mother have always been on good terms. another patient spends an inordinate amount of time carefully and compulsively straightening and arranging every thing in his room. he admits that it is perfectly silly to spend his hours in this way, but that he cannot stop these actions.if the parents are ocds the children will also get ocd.some times due to some chemical changes in the brain also cause ocd. you need not worry about it at all. consult a good psychiatrist and you will be completely relieved of all the symptoms.

The fact that you worry a lot may be a symptom of OCD. OCD is obsessive compulsive disorder. You might have obsessive thoughts about something that creates anxiety and then have to do something to relieve the anxiety (which is the compulsive part). It is often thought that it is a chemical imbalance that causes it and NOT something you or anyone in your family did. My daughter was diagnosed with OCD when she was in eighth grade. She took medicine and most likely will take medicine for the rest of her life, especially when the OCD gets a little stronger at times. But she graduated from High School, went to California to make a CD of her own songs and is working full time. Don't be afraid. Go to a doctor who knows about OCD and can help you. You will feel much better after a short time. With all the different medicines that are here to treat things like OCD, Diabetes, and most other diseases, there is no reason to suffer. You are NOT crazy. Good luck.

It can vary from person to person. For me, it's obsessive thoughts to the point where it bothers me that I can't stop thinking of something.
For some people they have rituals that they have to do, like counting.
For others it is germ phobias and obsessive hand washing.
Why are you afraid to go to a doctor? Lots of people have OCD. My friends and I laugh that we fell everyone has it to some degree about certain things.
It is when it interferes with your life that it becomes a problem.
Lexapro has helped me a lot with the obsesive thoughts. Good luck.

Go to the NUH website or to webmd to read about the symptoms. One I like is www.remedyfind.com. And do make an appointment and see a psychiatristt. It is a common disorder and often easy to fix.
