I have only a limited time to enlist becasue I turn 42 in January, is it possble to go through MEPS, enlist as infantry , and then ship to basic before January? I would prefer to defer until August if possible but since I will be 42 soon, I don`t know what the options are?

Yes... provided the scheduled basic training courses between now and then are not booked. Check with your recruiter. He has all the details.
If my memory serves correctly, you can swear in for the Delayed Entry Program before you reach 42 and still go to a basic training course AFTER your 42nd birthday. It's your age at the time you sign up and take the oath, not your age at the time you enter basic training.

Army basic training is 8 weeks, not 12. as long as you sign up before you turn 42 it does not matter when you leave for basic. it is the signing on the dotted line before you turn 42 that is important. I was in the army 4 years enlisted and 6 years as an officer. Good luck.

This depends on your and your recruiter. Some soldiers wait their entire senior year of high school to leave. I believe it's called "deferred enlistment" or delayed entry program, but it's been along time since we were on that end of the military. Check with your recruiter and see what's being offered....they'll know best.
By the way, my hubby is a Drill Sergeant and your age. Basic will be a rough 9 weeks, and it IS 9 weeks (not counting reception station). Be ready for it. Congrats on making this step in your life. GOOD LUCK!!

You can definitely get in before January. When you actually go will depend on your MOS and different follow-on schools. You can probably ship within a couple of weeks. Also, when you join the guard or reserves, you can start drilling right away, so it shouldn't matter how long it takes them to send you to basic.

You have plunty of time. Go take you asvab. Talk to a recuriter. Hell I heard that when you go down to meps. You can get shipped out soon after. I'm sure with in the next month you can get shipped. Tell your recruiter when want to leave asap. Don't be in a big enough hurry and forget to take time and look at your contract. Make sure it is what you want. Good luck.

Army basic is 12 weeks, regardless of AD, reserve, or Guard. And yes, if you really want to go, they can get you on your way ina couple of weeks if you are not picky about your career path.

About as long as it takes to stuff your young, dumb butt into a uniform... they need cannon fodder real badly, right now.
