Atheist are usually people who have been hurt by the church in some way. That's why it is hard to have a convo with them without it becoming heated. I speak from a lot of experience. I actually enjoy talking to atheists. It is great to see where people are coming from and it is a good indication of where the church has gone wrong.

Interesting question, actually, both sides say stuff like that all of the time. But I'm sure that some atheists you talk to don't care even a little. And I'm sure that some christians that atheists talk to don't care even a little.
It's a pretty classic case of prejudice-you see certain people of a group doing something and think that they all do it, where as I bet you don't think all christians are crazy evangelizing lunatics, because you know you're not crazy. It's all about exposure.
And those people get really emotional because they are prejudiced and believe that all christians are a certain way, ie, illogical, disrespectful, and self-righteous.
It's a sad cycle, really.
And Julia, that's sad that you think that. I think alot of atheists are honestly trying to make the world a better place to live by making people decide everything based on reason. It's really not necessarily self-serving.

Because somewhat they do care what your beliefs are or they wouldn't be sooo upset! I find it very hypocritical and to some of the atheists answers say that they don't care but why the fuss then? Why ask questions when neither can persuade the other? You shouldn't have to prove anything especially when their minds are already made up and they are close minded towards ur beliefs. God bless.

I never asked for something that does not exist, so I don't ask for proof of god. Why do religious people get so upset that I don't believe in god? Even if they start the conversation, they just get mad, and tell me I am going to hell. They tell me that evolution is lies, because it is not in the bible, and tell me to prove it. I can't prove it using the bible, and they don't understand any other method. So why do I have to prove it anyway?

People who are atheist have concluded that being atheist is the "logical choice." So, if you are religious, atheists might believe that your decision to be religious is a logical contradiction. It would be the equivilant to them if someone said to you "Since you don't love America, you must hate America," which is obviously makes no logical sense. I don't agree with this logic (being religious), but that's their mindset. You shouldn't have to "prove" anything, as religion is defined by a "faith" which cannot be confirmed through science or logic. Many have argued that being atheist means you have as much faith as a religious person, since you believe God does not exist with no evidence proving or disproving this.

I couldn't care less if you believe in god or not.
Maybe you said something that upset the people you talked to other than what you think it was or maybe you just talk to really emotional atheists...I don't know.

If theres anything that will rattle peoples cages, its talk about religion and politics. And if you don't feel you need to prove your point when it disagrees with someone else, they usually get upset. If youre ok with your faith, why can't they be ok with their lack of it? Mostly, they're upset that you have a set mind as to what your fate will be after death, and what theirs will be. They resent that you have supposedly condemned them. Because humans have that power over one another right? lol Their getting upset at you is rather ridiculous if you ask me.

John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17God did not send his Son into the world to condemn it, but to save it.
18"There is no judgment awaiting those who trust him. But those who do not trust him have already been judged for not believing in the only Son of God. 19Their judgment is based on this fact: The light from heaven came into the world, but they loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. 20They hate the light because they want to sin in the darkness. They stay away from the light for fear their sins will be exposed and they will be punished. 21But those who do what is right come to the light gladly, so everyone can see that they are doing what God wants."

Why do you care? They can say and do whatever they like, it's their life. Just like the theist can do and say whatever they like. As long as you are comfortable in your own belief system, why get upset. There are closed minded people on both sides of the fence. "To thine own self be true." I live and function in my own skin. I am very comfortable here. Learning is a Gift from God.
