Well, in the US, every 18 sec. there is a accident at a grade crossing (Road crossing). I have killed 4 people here in CA in 4 separate places. All in 3 years... I worked with some people that have killed 10 to 15 in less than 8 years...

Well, first we must exclude from statistics the people that put in the way of the trains on level crossings or suicides. That are not "train accidents". Also bombs in trains must be excluded as they are not "train accidents". Only derailments and collisions are included. Trains are safer than planes and buses obviously. The most tragic accidents in the last years happened in India, with high victim numbers.

It would have to be overseas. America probably has the best safety record - its much safer to ride a train here than drive and fly (in most cases). The standards and rules just aren't existant overseas.
