According to the Bible, the Antichrist will be a political leader who will unite practically the whole world under his rule and establish a secular religion in which he himself is worshipped as God.

The reason most people won't recognize him as evil is that most people, by the time he hits the scene, will have turned against the message of the gospel, and so they will be looking for a more pleasant "alternative spirituality" which the Antichrist will be all too happy to provide them. Thus, as they have already abandoned the hard truths of the gospel, the majority of people in the last days will be ready and willing to accept Antichrist's rule, reign, and mark -- and those who do accept his mark will be cut off forever from the hope of eternal life.

The only way to know is in the book of Revelations.
In the King James version, and some older translations, it can be VERY hard to understand. If you want an easier version - get a copy of Eugene H. Peterson's "The Message." It's the Bible in contemporary language. It's not the best to take to Church with you to follow along when the Pastor is reading the Scriptures because it's written more in story form. BUT it is very true to the Message. And it's a good way to work through Books of the Bible that you may be struggling with. Sometimes the "thee's and thou's" can get in the way of grasping the meaning.

The Book of Revelation never mentions "Antichrist" or "The Rapture". If you actually read its 22 chapters you will be quite surprised what is and isn't there. The word "antichrist" is only mentioned by John in his letters...not the Gospel of John...the letters just before Revelation. And here it is mentioned in the collective...not as an individual. For example... Orthodox Jews who reject Christ as Son of God and Messiah would be "Antichrist"... Muslims who recognize Jesus as only a man and prophet...not the Christ sent by God... are "Antichrist".

Because people only know what they have heard spoken from others and have not actually read and studied, they are in for sad and unexpected days.

P.S. ADDITION: It has become even more painfully obvious that most of the people posting here have received their Biblical and Christian education from books and movies other than the Holy Bible.... soo sad. God Bless you.....

We'll notice when he starts solving all the world's problems, becoming a "darling" to all of us so dear that we name him ruler of the planet under a sovereign banner of some sort that will be divided into ten "nation states" that he will govern from Rome. But he'll screw up by trying to take it to the next level and take a seat in the Third Temple to be built in Jerusalem on the Dome of the Rock and proclaim himself to be God! The cries of blasphemer will go forth, and war will be the end result! God will then apply the coup de etat during Armageddon and that will be the beginning of the end for Satan. he will be a person of extreme wisdom and charisma indwelt by Satan and given knowledge and ability to perform "counterfeit" miracles so that it will be easy to believe his claim to be God by those who don't know better. Yes, we'll know him; he's alive right now; he just hasn't come into power yet, because the Church hasn't been raptured yet. When that occurs, look out!

I don't remember the book, it is one of the books Paul wrote and I believe it is in Acts. But the bible says there will be many antichrists, antichrist refers to anyone who goes against God's teachings.

When 'that man of sin'(1Thes 2:3,4) was revealed, we know his number 666 (Rev 13:18), also 1John 2:18,22; 4:3; 2John 1:7. We know who he is. READ THESE VERSES! Look back in history 1468 years, and you will find the institution of the antichrist. That position has been filled every year except one in all that time. This person WILL lead the world in the ways of Satan, and the vast number of us will not even know that that is what he is doing until it is to late, and probation is closed.

He won't come right out and sat follow me I'm the anti-christ. He will be a great leader. His ideas will stir the whole earth. He will bring peace to the middle east making a contract with them and the nations of Europe. People will flock to him because he will give people what they want. Then he will snatch it all away breaking his contract. His power now enforced by political and police powers. Forcing the world to except him as their one true god.

Read Revalations and if you pray everyday and not in vain(only when you need something) he will show you signs.
Like when my mom moved to California and needed to find a church, she thought that the pastor was gay and it ended up being true. So if you have faith God will show you things. They try to fool children with Santa & the Easter bunny but it's all about Christ birth and Resurrection.

An anti-Christ are all those that denied that Jesus is the Son of God, those that don't believe in the word of God. Right now we are surrounded by anti-Christs.
