Is he from another country? I know many foreign guys who do this when they're with someone they really like. They feel it is more intimate and shows the public you are together, because he can hold your hand, put his arm around you, sit really close, etc.

Also, consider this: some guys are really weird about others seeing them eat, especially if it's something messy like pasta or soup. By sitting next to you, he knows you won't be watching him take every bite.

Don't read too much into it unless he does it every time.

It means that he likes you and wants to be close to you... however, I think it's weird to see people sitting beside each other in a restaurant instead of across from each other. Who knows, maybe I'm weird for thinking this.

It means he's comfortable with you. Although if you guys arn't dating or arn't at that point where you're both sure you will date that is kind of strange because that's usually what couples do I think (or at least really good friends). But yeah, he's just comfortable with you.

just friends, if he sat across from you that is more seductive. Like he wants to look at your face and eyes and your front.

To me that would mean that he was smothering. I don't want someone on top of me when I'm eating.
