We are having our late October wedding in the historic barn at our new farm. It will be small and simple (50 people $2000 budget). We will be doing basically EVERYTHING ourselves, flowers, food, everything.

We plan on decorating the barn with hanging candle lanterns and pine boughs. Our colors are Hunter Green and Ivory.

We need ideas for basically everything! I am very craftey and he is very handy so we can do most everything.

Any ideas for decorations? Food?

Thanks!

BBQ maybe tri tip or something, but definitley BBQ would be appropriate, unless of course it's too cold where you are in Oct.?
But I would think bulk and warm confort foods! Gravy and bisquits, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese! Everyone loves this sruff, and it'll be warm and conforting, not to mention easy! Maybe go to the grocery and by a bunch of Rotisserie chicken's already done, they're like $5 a pop, cheap, good and hassle free!! Cut'em up, put'em on a platter and throw away the store containers!

Also, have you thought about riding in or out on a horse? Might be cool?!

Music makes the mood, wether it's a CD boom box or a DJ, try and either burn a compiled CD of your favirote country songs, or have someone managing the music, (a volunteer of course!) but with out music, it will feel cold and awkward, no matter how many flowers and decorations there are...in my opinion of course!

Decorate with pictures in frames of the two of you together! People love to see that stuff, esspecially if they don't know your partner real well, it helps them to realize that you've had a relationship prior to marriage, even if they've never met them! And a lot of people will just enjoy them~ it helps set the tone for why you are all "gathered there that day!"

Lighting is also key, I love the candle lantern idea you have, that'll be beautiful!! Barns can be big, cold, dark and drafty! If the candles aren't bright enough, maybe consider stringing up some little white bulb lights on/in the rafters~ They will warm and lighten a ton!! Nice ambience, not too much money either, I think I found them at Wal Mart or Target for our wedding, for about $4 a box, and they're like 10-12ft long. They're nice too cause you can use them other places after~ My mom and I used them on our porch and in our back yards~ If it's your barn, maybe consider leaving them up afterwards~? I don't know.

I love the sunflower idea above! And definitley go wholesale! We saved hundreds for our wedding by going to Sams Club and doing our own arrangments! They have beautiful flowers!

Also, the atmosphere should be celebrated too! I wouldn't worry about things like saddles on the walls or bails of hay stacked to the sides, these things will appear placed there for decoration, in fact if you want to save money on chair rentals, consider using bails of hay as benches/seats for your guests, and use either canvas or burlap to lay over the top! That would be really cute!

If your hubby to be is handy, maybe he can put together a simple alter for you two to wed under? You can use it for deco in your yard after too!

I think this will be an amazing wedding! I wish I could be there to help put it all together!! I just love this stuff! Sounds like you will have a lot of fun and a day to cherish always! Doing it all your self is so satisfying! You will that much more satisfied and proud! Congrats, Best wishes, and enjoy!!!

I am getting married October 28th. We were going to have a full blown Halloween wedding. Here are some of the things that we were going to do...we have gone to a very semi-formal wedding now.

Hay Bails with Scarecrows on them (we were going to dress them like us). Pumpkins on the tables. We were going to use the pumpkins as candle holders. We were going to do candy bags for favors. Sunflowers. An arch made out of small trees and branches, covered in wild flowers. Also with the pumpkins we were going to carve out the middles and turn them into coolers for the tables. I might still do that. Corn cobbs and gords.
We have a Halloween Village that we were going to set up andplay scary music.

Hope it helps. There are a lot of craft ideas online for kids to do for Halloween, like placemats, cards, candy holders...etc that can go with your theme.

As for food, you can make cookies with bats on them, or pumpkin pie. Barn food is cheap and simple. BBQ meats, salads, bread, fun Halloween themed appitizers.

I might still have the magazines if you would like them. The internet has tons of stuff.

Flowers:
Buy some galvanized buckets and fill them with sunflowers for your flower arrangements. You can get them at a flower depot, not at a florist! It's beautiful and would probably fit your theme. The green in the flowers would match your hunter green theme.

why not make jam in little jars as your thank you gift. Fruit is cheap and plentiful right now. You could cover the jam jars with bit of inexpensive ginham fabric and you'd be set. Freezer jam or strawberry jam is easy to make. You could make up little jam labels that say something useful.
