Reality is the vain of my existence. What's it for you?
Who can really be sure what is real and what is not? Take a look at the world around you and take in the sights, smells, sounds, etc. Then close your eyes and ears. Think only about whatever is important to you. Then what happens? The rest of the world is blocked out. It is only temporary. Can something temporary be real? You tell me.

I'm sorry so many try to tell you anything can be real if you see it as real. The truth is, if you don't see what's real the men in white coats come to take you to a nice soft padded room.
Real is not just perception, real is truth obtained by observation. This is why the testimony of a witness is so important. You have to be able to trust the witness before you can accept his story of observing a truth. So when the history books tell you about Napoleon, you reject this or accept this based on the value of the witness. A funny thing is that there is more evidence for the life of Jesus Christ than there is for Napoleon but because of a reputation, the witness for Christ has been subverted by distrust. If the subversion of trust is merited then fine, the witness is untrustworthy, but if the subversion of trust is not merited, then people have believed testimonies of false witnesses against Christianity. You see? You have to evaluate the witness before you accept what the witness has to say about any subject. Does he or she have an agenda about this topic they've expressed? Are their testimonies flavored with exaggeration? Perhaps they aren't intelligent enough to comment on that topic? This is why your reputation is important. Your word is your bond. Because you want to be believed when it matters to you, you will see to it that you speak the truth even when it costs you.

For a thorough answer to this, read a book called "The Fabric of Reality" by David Deutsch - it's packed with science so if that's not your thing then I'd leave it. One thing is for sure - that book makes answers along the lines of "whatever you think is real is real" look positively moronic!

You can never know what is really real. We can only know things are our brain interprets and perceives them. So we can never know things as-they-are, but only things as-our brain-perceives-them-to-be. If you and a fly watch a sunset whose perception of the sunset is more real? Get my point?

real is always subjective..in one culture a certain structure is a "real" house. in another it is a cardboard box. i define real as: if i can see it and touch it and feel the object, it is real. (assuming i'm awake and not hallucinating)..
once i told a woman, " your earrings are beautiful " she replied, "they're not real" (referring to the gems). i touched them and said they look real i see them so why don't you think they are real? she got the point..

Nothing is real. This is similar to asking "what do I know?, the answer... Knowledge is knowing that I know nothing.
