When you ask for a pack of Marlboro in any store, 99 times out of 100, the reply is what kind? Any one who smokes knows that Marlboro is Marlboro. The store clerk asks you - menthol, 100's, lights or ultra-lights.

I did not ask for 100's, nor menthol, nor lights, nor ultra-lights.

All I asked for is Marlboro. Reds? Every Marlboro is red. Why ask?

This happens to me to. So the other day I went into the store and asked for Marlboro Reds the guy pulls out a pack of them and says are these the ones? When I said yeah (I guess kinda rude) he said well everyone else just says Marlboros. This was coming from a guy who the day before when I asked for Marlboro's he asked me "reds?"
God this annoys me. I just want to get my cigs. and get going not play 20 Q.
It is mostly the people who do not smoke that ask these annoying Q's. You can tell who does because there is no Q's asked.
So I understand how you feel.

To avoid ambiguity you should address the convenience store clerk in the following manner:

I would like a right rectangular prism shaped pack of Marlboros, and I mean the one that comes in the pack where approximately 75% of the pack is white, and there is a chevron on the package above which the pack is a solid red color except for a white strip that says "filter cigarettes". Below the chevron you will find the Marlboro emblem.

Say these few, descriptive words and you will get what you seek every time.

WHY? Marlboro reds shorts ,100's,or 72's. I smoke Marlboro red 100's and thats what I ask for ive been a clerk and its annoying for the customer to assume that I should know which kind cause ill naturally grab shorts then theyll tell me flat out they asked for 100's. its just better to say marlboro red shorts or 100's what ever the case shold be.Ive had people do that to me with all types of cigs. Doral its like ok doral shorts 100's its just mind blowing to have some get so mad cause I dont know which one they smoke

In the grand scheme of things - one will cause cancer and produce second hand smoke that can kill innocent non smokers just the same as the other.
So, who cares. Stop now, while your lungs still have a chance to recover from the abuse, and your chances of lung cancer, mouth cancer and heart disease still can decrease.
Live a long and healthy life.
