I'm the adoptive mother of a Blue & Gold macaw....who has a very extensive vocabulary. She says everyone in my family's names...including grandpap & grandma... she calls the dog, tells on my kids, answers questions.... tells me she wants to go for a ride & brushes her *hair*....she rides my bike with me, rides in my firebird with the t~tops off, she goes shopping in all the local stores....she can count, stack blocks, sort & separate colors, she has 2 of those *see & say* toddler toys..she can imitate all of the animals on them....she sings the song from *cops* and dances to it...she does the hokey pokey & dances to that..as well as wheels on the bus.and she makes all the noises to go along with the songs.
My Macaw also calls the dog( a St. Bernard named Abbey).....she says......*come here BABS......mmmmmmmm.....look what i have.......MMMMMMM.......want some?.mmmmmmm.it's good....mmm come here...want some? When the dog finally gives in and goes to see the bird....she throws her big rubber chicken leg onto the dogs head from atop her cage...and says HA! HA! HAAAAAAA! My Macaw loves to shower, follow us all over the house, go outside in the yard ( she won't leave my sight because she thinks the big bad wolf will get her..lol)....she does everything us humans do. The Macaw is also teaching our Tiel to talk very well.... his vocabulary is steadily growing day by day.....he also now looks for the dog to tease her....and calls her as well.
My birds are NOT caged..are trained to only *poop* in certain areas...... & the Tiel is now outside flight trained so he won't fly away either.
The Macaw has her own high chair, uses her own lil forks & spoons and even has the Tiel flying to our plates to mooch from us while we eat!
Don't expect your bird to always talk on command.....they seem to give great performances when they *think* no one is watching or listening..lol My birds hollar as soon as i go outside without them!
There are also wordy birdy cd's and nature cd's you can get to play when you are not home ( my tv stays on the PBS channel....the birds love to watch zaboomafoo). I've been a bird caregiver & owner for 35 years.....they teach you something new every day. Good Luck!

Yes. All my birds talk.
My 18 year old rainbow lorikeet, Sir Lancelot the Loud Lorikeet, says "Hi Lance" "hi bird" "hi birdie" "kittycat" "kiss kiss kiss" "gimme kiss" "Gimme kitty" "c'mere" "goodnight" and probably more I can't think of.
My 13 year old red-rainbow hybrid Zeebo (craZY rainBOw)says "hey-hey-hey" "kittycat" "hi lance" and some swears. He hates water and when I give him a bath he runs away yelling "hey hey hey" and hides in his box.
My bonded pair of perfect lorikeets, Hogan and Annie, mostly mutter things I can't understand but others claim to have heard them speak clearly. I got them used, I think they are 15 and 12 but I'm not sure.
My deceased birds, a red lory, a red-rainbow hybrid and two other rainbow lorikeets, all talked. The hybrid learned to talk at 6 weeks old. The red used to say "mmm" when she ate and the hybrid said "goodnight" when she wanted to sleep. The rainbow I got used said her name constantly, plus "whatcha doing?" and a few other things I didn't figure out before she died. She was saying "hi Lance" after only 5 days and it broke my heart to lose her after only 3 weeks--she ingested something toxic before I got her and it killed her. The other rainbow pretty much said everything Lance says plus she whistled and said a few swears.

Yes! I have a bird that talks! He says his name, my name and occaisonaly a family members name. When I wake up in the morning, I will call him repeatedly and that is how he learnt to say his own name, he learnt to call my name because people are often calling my name and he coppies them. Its quite interesting to hear what words he picks up from people.

I have 4 African Grays and they all talk very good. They even insult each other by call one another names and telling each other to shut up.
One Parrot will learn a new song or new words and the other parrots will learn to repeat them.

I have two Congo African Grey parrots. They are male and female siblings. (same clutch). The female will be three years old tomorrow and the male will be three years old next Monday.
They have extensive vocabularies as most grey parrots are capable.

my bird talks its so cute. The key is to constantly repeat words to them and they will pick up on them: My bird says his name.."Romeo" and I call him Romey he also says that.... He says peek a boo, buh bye, hi, night night, come here, good boy, I love you, what, gimmie kiss, he also makes kiss noises when I say gimmie kiss and he barks like our dog occasionally.
