This is a vet question because dogs are like humans in many ways. It may be a food allergy or product allergy. Over the counter may not do it and puppy suffers while you try stuff out. I know basically that is what the vet does too but they have more experience and may find the cure first off and pup is as good as new.

No. I wouldn't bathe her more than once every six months - that definitely affects the skin. She could easily have allergies to food or grass. I'd try a canned food like Nutro Lamb & Rice. It has no "by products" unlike the high-priced Eukanuba. Many dogs (and some humans) are allergic to wheat and the preservatives in dry foods. I'd keep her inside on a tile or wood floor as much as possible and go for leash walks in the street - see if that helps. If you can afford it, take her to a canine allergy specialist. My friend has Australian shepherds - she got a profile from the allergist showing that one of her dogs was so allergic to so many things that she had to be put to sleep. (The poor dog was chewing herself raw 24/7.) Good luck!

My Pomeranian has the same problem.. the Vet recommended Benadryl - just a tad bit though and it seems to work really well. They told me that dogs can use a lot of the same medications that a human can.

It depends on what the dog is allergic to. If it is its food then you need to switch to a better brand. If it's environmental then you need to know what is causing the problem. Provide more specifics of what the vet said.
