If you react in any way differently depending on how good your cards are, you are tipping off your hand. For some people, this also include changing your opening bet.
The problem is in figuring out whether that eyebrow twitch means their hand is good or bad! :o) Every person's idiosyncrasies are different. So there isn't a rule that says, for example, "when they rub their nose they have a great hand."
Somehow I would think that if they gasp!! when they pick up their cards they have a good hand. Especially if they are newbies.

My friend in college would start banging his knees on the table and moaning like he was having an orgasm whenever he had a good hand. This is what poker experts call a "subtle tell".

They scratch their nose,fidget,play with anything that is there,like poker chips,they look all around the room.coughing.

the most basic tell is
people act strong when they are really weak
people act weak when they are really strong
better players will actually act strong when strong, to mess that tell up.
basically betting patterns are a form of tell and not physical tells.
