Microsoft Office provides you with three possibilities.

1. Outlook and it's Contact list
2. Excel, which can easily be used for simple custom made lists, but has some good functionality. Also look at the TEMPLATES that come with it.
3. Access is totally flexible. But more programming would be required. There are some templates.

If you are a LAW office, you might try PC LAW. Oddly enough, it does require some upgrading if you are using Outlook 2003. But it seems to work good with Outlook 2000.

Another possibility is QuickBooks. The advanced versions, like the Contractor version can be very helpful.

Many businesses have specialized software, which you can find out about.

Depend on what your requirement is

- if you mean accounts and inventories including your bank books, then Tally is a very convenient software

- for your address like database maintenance the Address Book provided with Windows is very effective

i think a combination of the 2 is a very good cost effective solution to the problem

Sun MicroSystems and Google have a free site (openoffice.org). This site contains free word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database application software. There is even an application devoteed strictly to mathematics. Take a look at it.

It depends on the cost you are willing to spend. Expensive tools such as oracle is great or microsoft sql or something already in an office suite such as microsoft access can do the job. It also depends on how big your database will be and how it is used.

if you look for a professional Database it is absoloutely "Oracle" but if you want the most easy database its "Microsoft Access" and if you are in the midddle use one of these: "Microsoft SQL Server", "My SQL" and .....
