My friend of 25 years related an experience that changed his life. He was always depressed, lost his job and was drinking heavily. About to give up completely one evening he felt as if his "head blew up." This left him feeling extremely clearheaded and his memories and senses were heightened dramatically. He said he remembered songs he had forgotten, was able to sing and play his guitar better than he ever had.
He went to bed that night and was awakened by a room full of people. He wasn't afraid and spent the evening in conversation with them. He had a visit from an old girlfriend that had commited suicide many years ago. They talked about things he needed closure on. As the morning came the people started to fade and his "clarity" from the night before went with them.

I know this sounds really crazy but his whole attitude about life has changed. He no longer drinks in excess and is happy and enjoying his life now.

I am looking for experiences and books to read on this.

You could try a life coach, they are fairly helpful with situations on life changes. They may also lead you books or audio on how to change your life. Also, maybe browse the self help section of the book store, see if maybe something pops out you there. I think this is great for your friend and I wish him all the best. (and you too)

It almost sounds like he had a near death experience.

"Life after Death" by Raymond Moody Jr.

"Through Time Into Healing"by Brian L. Weiss

Glad your friend found his "Nirvana".
Good luck to you in finding yours.
Still trying to find mine, thought I had it but it disappeared.

I haven't heard of "become clear headed" part before. I think his experience was rather a personal one. Although it's different, you could do search on "out of body experience". you might find some interesting experience of other people.
