We lost our son at 21 weeks (May 22nd) and the Dr determined that I have an incompetent cervix. So for future pregnancies I will have a cerclage done at 13 weeks... I'm kind of nervous about the whole situation and that the cerclage will not work.. Anyone out there been throught the procedure and what are your thoughts? They say the success rate of going full term w/ a cerclage is 91%, the rest will probably end up having the baby a little earlier...like right after they take the stitches out at 34 weeks!

i have 3 wonderful children and have an incompetent cervix i had the circlage with all of them the way it is done is they cut a small hole while you are under sedation in your cervix and one beside your cervix they take a tie that looks just like a bread tie just stronger duty and run it through the holes they cut, and twist it shut until it is safe for the baby to be born it is then released in the doctors office without pain medication but it doesn't hurt he just clips it with a pair of scissors and pulls it out and they you can go into labor normally at any time after that but since the cervix is tied throughout your pregnancy you cannot miscarry

I am so sorry for your loss. My cousin (and her mother) both have this issue. If you have any sisters or later any daughters you should urge them to also have the procedure. My cousin did have a boy very early and it was detemined that she had an incompetent cervix as well. She had a cerclage with all her other pregnacies and she does have 3 beautiful healthy boys right now. She did have them all preemie (as soon as the stitches were removed) but they all did just fine. You will have to be on pelvic rest (no sex) during the duration of the preg. but you will have a sweet baby before you know it. The reason no sex is because during an orgasm your cervix opens and closes rapidly. Good luck in the future with your family.

I am very sorry about your loss. I too lost my son at 6 months due to a different circumsatnce. But, with the help of the cerclage I will be celebrating my second son's 1st Birthday next month. The cerclage placement really isn't all too scary, they give you an epidural to numb you from the waist down, which will kind of give you an idea of the labor process itself. The only thing is you have to watch how active you are because the stiches are to support the baby. But the amount of time you need to stay inactive (so to speak) is a small price to pay for the bundle of joy you will be getting- nine months goes by fast!!! And, it is untrue that you have the baby right after the stiches are removed- I went the whole nine months. If it was'nt for the cerclage I would'nt have my son today- HURRAY CERCLAGES!!!!! BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!!!

First, I wanted to say sorry for your loss. I too have lost a child. I found out I was pregnant with twins at 8 weeks and panic set in. My doctor told me that I would need to get a cerclage due to the previous lost plus the whole issue with the twins. I had the procedure done, under general, and went on the have healthy twin boys. They said to watch for bleeding to know that the cerclage was "compromised". I had terrible stomach pains but no bleeding on week 34. Went to the hospital and was told that they cerclage had "ripped" and it was taken out and I was already 5 cent. It is worth it, trust me. Best of luck.

I'm very sorry for your loss. I, myself, lost a child at about 17 weeks due to what the DR detrmined an incompetent cervix. I am currently 38 weeks pregnant with my son, and did not have cerclage, or any other preventative procedures. I would suggest talking more with your doctor about your concerns. they can monitor you very closely early in your pregnancy to determine if you will need any interventions done to prevent another loss. In some cases, cerclage is necessary, but in some it is not.

cervical circulage is a simple procedure done for women with multiple abortions due to incompetent cervix, it involves 2 stiches to tghten the cevix together. It's so safe with minimal risk factors, so i recommend u to go thru.
