To stop him from crashing into the walls and other dangerous objects you need to have his flight feathers clipped. Not only can he fly into wall, he could fall into the toilet, a pan of cooking food, dish water, ceiling fans, or even out the door if someone were to leave it open.
Please ignor scoot's remark about letting your bird free, I can tell she is a cold heartless person who has never own a loving pet bird

to be on the secure part i'd take to vets because it will be extra huge then it type of feels. you could stop the bleeding with extremely of flour purely be particular it does not get into the nares. there should be some head trauma. i'd advise clipping theri wings in the experience that they shop flying into issues. Or positioned them in a small room and cover all mirrors and living house windows as they imagine they can fly by ability of them. A chicken does not have a lot blood in its body so any bleeding should be stopped asap. shop warmth and extremely and my suggestion should be a vet visit. extra valuable secure than sorry. you could want the others appeared at besides.

Open the wing gently and clip the flight feather ends just a little it wont hurt him but he wont be able to fly high. the flight feathers are the longest feathers on the wing, again just a little make sure you dont nip him or bend the wing. Other alternative is a little weight on his legs maybe a piece of lead

Since you describe his flying as 'as if he didn't know how to fly', it sounds like he was panicking. Of course, the easiest way to prevent this from happening would be to have his wings clipped. However, you state that you want him to be able to use his wings and fly around. If that is the case, one way to prevent panicked fluttering is to keep the lights off in the room while you have him out. Not forever, just until he becomes more comfortable with you. While birds have excellent eyesight in daylight, they don't see as well in the dark, so they're less likely to take off in a darker room.
From your question, it sounds like you haven't been together for very long. Play with him a lot in a dimly lit room, until he becomes more acquainted with your touch. Once he becomes very comfortable with you (ie. you can take him out, pet him, maybe cuddle with him), try playing with him with the lights on again. With the lights on, open his cage, and see if he wants to come out on his own. If he doesn't readily climb out, see if he will jump onto your hand and take him out. Be gentle and don't make any fast movements that might startle him. See if he will let you stroke his back or if he will cuddle against your chest with the lights on, without taking off again.
However, I would recommend turning the lights on while he is inside the cage, not out. Turning the lights on while a semi-nervous bird is out of the cage can really freak them out (I know from experience) and cause them to take off again.
Basically, to sum it up, it sounds like your bird was panicking since he was flying into walls. If you don't want to get his wings clipped, then you'll have to use an alternative method to prevent him from flying away while getting acquainted with you, and keeping the lights low in the beginning until you get to know each other and being gentle usually works. Remember, you'll have to spend a significant amount of time together daily to establish the level of trust it will take for him to feel consistently safe with you.
Good luck, and I wish you two the best!

Usually when they crash into walls or mirrors they are scared and are trying to get away. Maybe you should just let him stay in the cage. Sometimes they learn from their mistakes will be more careful next time.

You need to have his wings clipped. It will stop him from flying and hurting himself. The procedure is painless to the bird and is very safe, it is just like getting a hair cut. It is not that stressful, on the bird either. You can do it or your vet can do it low cost. I hope this helps

I let the vet clip my parakeets wings... too scared of hurting him to do it myself.
He was easier to train that way. Now when I let him out of the cage he has extremely good control of where he is going.
At least clip them until he learns better control.

Do you have a female there for him? If not, I can understand why he is banging his head on the wall.
