The human genome has been mapped and living creatures have been cloned, fact.

We can identify where, why and how likely people are to develop diseases and conditions based on their genetic makeup. It's possible that in time we will be able to cure any disease and create humans who are stronger, faster, live longer and think quicker than anything the world has seen before.

So, if god created this genome and these sequences and we can potentially take these sequences, read and re-write them however we like and we can take existing or extinct creatures and re-create them using cloning we could use those skills to take a world like our own which was barren of life and place life on the planet of our own design, or at the very least a variation of 'Gods' original designs... The only barrier left is to terraform a planet ..!

Once that happens would that make us Gods, and if not, why not..?

Well, the only thing I have heard so far is that we do not currently have the power to create something from nothing but we do have the potential to be gods.

At one time we thought that the earth was at the center of the universe, was flat and you could sail right off the edge if you went far enough... All of these "facts" have been proven incorrect by people willing to explore the possabilities and choices of this ever expanding universe...

Given that a hundred years ago people would have said that cloning a human being and mapping the Genome were impossible, and that six hundred years ago most of the technology we have now would have been considered devil worship and you would have been burned to death for studying such things by the church, surely in enough time and with enough technological and/or biological evolution and/or manipulation on our part we will reach a stage where this is possible...

All I will say at this point is that an open mind is a terrible thing to waste...

I'm having difficulty deciding on the best answer because most of you decided to use a pre-scripted answer which you have obviously used in the past... This whole, "Who owns the clay" thing you have going.

The problem I have with that is that you are all assuming it's not possible for us to create our own "Clay" from nothing, and one day you may be proven wrong...

I can't accept that as an answer.

sounds like it. we create life and take it away, do we not?

This is a good question. God also created all atomic and subatomic substances that we know. Since we can split and fuse atoms together in various ways, form water with hydrogen and oxygen separately in a chamber, does that make us gods? Likewise, does the fact that we can engineer anything make us gods? I would argue no, because we are still bound by science, which is a creation of God. Until we can come up with a way of forming matter or energy out of literally nothing, then I would have to say God is supreme.

First of all, you are severely over estimating the power of mapping the genome. All that does is says that we know what a strand of DNA looks like, what it's made of and where a few "selectg" genes are located and what they can do. That doesnt say they can change any gene and know exactly the effects. To change the dna and then create a living creature from it and to know exactly what the changes have been made is far down the road from now. With that siad, man is still not able to "create" life from nothingness. GOD took nothing and made the firmaments of the earth and then from the dust of that, created US. He took inanimate, unnamed particles and first created subatomic particles, then atomic particles, then proteins, etc....up to cells and tissues, and organs and finally living creatures. The engineering to do that is incredible and no doubt awe inspiring. Man is incapable of doing that, we can only manipulate existing life and try to create artificial life from nonliving things that were given to us by GOD. He is the one who created silicon you know. anyway, I am a Christian and that is what I know.

it is very possible that in the near future, that we will clone an actual living human being. as a creature, it deserves the rights and privileges afforded other members of society.

the question becomes: does the creation have a soul. it is the soul that supposedly differentiates us from other animals, as that is the "image of God" that we carry.

of course we would not be gods of any sort. it is still not possible for us to create universes, planets or other matter in this plane of existence.

once upon a time, a group of scientist gathered all of their knowlege and confronted God and informed him that they were not gods because they could create a man from dirt.... God looks at them and agrees to give them godly powers if they do....the scientists begin their project, but God stops them and says, "Nope! You've got to use your own 'dirt'."

To answer your question, I quote two verses. John 1:12 says, "But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name." Through faith in Christ, we become sons of God. Second, Romans 13:1 says, "Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God." Technology is a wonderful thing, and it enables us to do the things that you talked about in your question. God did command man to have dominion over the earth. But technology does not make us God. For one thing, God is a perfect being. As humans, we are not perfect and will never be. And, whatever breakthroughs are to come in technology, we cannot be like God. God created the genome that we mapped. God created the life that we will one day transplant onto another planet to terraform. God can also destroy whatever we build to prevent us from going against His perfect will. We can do many wonderful things with our technology, but we will never be able to overcome God's will.

To say it with humor....The scientists decided they had created life and no longer needed God. So a representative was sent to God to tell Him. In His infinite love he responded...fine, go ahead!

The scientist picked up a handful of clay. With that, the skies darkened, the rains fell, the thuder roared and the lightning flashed. In fear the scientist asked: What's wrong?

God replied...Get your own clay!

No it wouldn't make us "gods" cause no matter how much we do here on earth we still can't stop the moon from moving away from the earth.....which it is currently moving away from us at the rate of 1/2 inch per year.

Once that happens we will be Gods? We are already Gods. Each an individuation of the formless, genderless energy source of life itself. Our creations are God's creations.

John 10:34 - Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?

Here's lil story for ya:

Scientists had finally figured out how to create a man from dirt, take a rib, and create a woman. They elected a leader and sent him to God.
The man walked up to God and said, "Sir, we don't need you anymore, we have figured out how to create man like you did."
The man bent down and picked up some dirt to begin, God intrupted him and said, "Get your own dirt."

Sorry, only God is God.

Mortal man has always had the power of God, given to us by God through the holy spirit, to be used and enjoyed as ordained by God...

"You are made in my image." God

We have MORE power than god since god is imaginary. We have ALWAYS had more power than something that cannot exist.
Remember that, it's important.
