No, I think that's great. It would only be intimidating depending on how you are about MY Job.
I was talking to this girl who designs micro-chips for an international co. I was impressed, and thought that's a really good job, and wanted to ask about her job. Then she asked me about my job (I was a teacher at the time.) and she just sort of goes "Oh."
Well, that reaction felt to me like my job was so much lesser than hers, and just killed everything for me. I loved being a teacher, but her reaction was humiliating.
I guess if a guy is embarassed about his job, you're being a mechanical engineer would be a problem for him. (And for guys, our identities and status are tied up in our jobs much more than for women I believe,)

I'm a programmer and I've often wondered the same. If you are that smart and confident enough to go into a program like that, then you'll only attract guys who can respect that.
Any of them who can't, you don't need.

for most guys its a yes because you the brainy kind of chick who is not dependant on no guy and most guyz need that kinda control. But for a few you will be the one as you are sophisticated, brainy (can handle tough situations) and the guy will love you for that

Intellectual conversations are a must for me. However, I don't know the first thing about Mech. Eng. so you'd have to teach me. I'm a fast learner.

If it does you hanging with the wrong guy. Life; when sharing it with someone is about building things together. The more you have is the more you both have.

it depends on what guy you say it to, like when they ask me what im studying, and i reply, 'industrial design' the ones who are 'intellectual' meaning, educated, would simply say, 'oh cool'. if it was one of those guys who never touched a book after highschool would say, 'oooh...really?..' getting all intimidated. it all depends. really.
