There are no common beliefs among atheist. The only common thing among them is their lack of "theism", in other words, their lack of beliefs in personal god(s), deities and other supernatural beings.
Other religions, like buddhism, have a lot of philosophies easily accepted by atheists.
Atheism see religions, like islam and christiany, equally valid (or invalid in this case) as the nordic and greek mythologies.
So, in general, it's the lack of belief what determines an atheist. And, as mentioned before, there are strong atheism (those who deny god or gods) and weak atheism (those without belief in god or gods).
Some atheists label themselves as "spirituals", note that the way "spiritual" is used here is in a different context and meaning than when used in judeo-christians beliefs.

Atheism is not a religion in the sense that Christianity, Islam, and, Judaism are. Atheism is not generally perceived as offering a complete guideline for living as do most religions.
Atheism is confined to one factor: the existence or non-existence of a deity.
Atheism can involve the positive assertion that there is no deity. This is sometimes referred to as "strong Atheism." It is the most common dictionary definition for the term "Atheist."
Atheism can be the absence of a belief that there is a deity. This is the belief promoted by the American Atheists group and many individual Atheists.
Each atheist has a personal moral code. However, it is generally derived from secular considerations, and not from any "revealed" religious text.

Asking what atheists' beliefs are with regard to religion is silly... a non sequitur... a meaningless question.
Atheists simply so not believe in god. Some atheists (strong atheism) go so far as to 'believe' that there is no god. Other atheists (weak atheism, agnostic atheism) do not find that there is enough evidence (actually, there isn't any) to support a belief in a god or gods.
Not believing that there is a god DOES NOT require that some other belief take its place. In fact, it is 'belief' itself that is the villian here... it cuts off the mind from consideration of alternative possibilities.
The religious, when faced with something unknown, is prone to resort to logical fallacy, and say something like "I don't understand that; therefore, god did it." The rational person (atheist), in the same situation, would be prone to say "We don't know... yet." That is sufficient.

No one tells you what you believe. It's not a religion, it's the opposite of religion.
1. there are no "gods"
2. all religions are created by man to provide answers to the unknown.
3. you are free to think what you want about anything

1. There is no god or higher power.
2. All religions are false. They may serve a societal purpose, and those who belong to them may be good people, but the fundamental message about belief in a god/supreme being earning one a good place in the afterlife is false.
3. Repeat ad naseum.

The only thing you need to know is that atheists do not believe in any gods or religions. Other than that, it's all individual opinion.

An Atheist does not believe in any god or deity. I personally believe in myself and the reality of life. I think you should educate yourself before you make any decision on what you believe in.
