The bestman is there for support to the groom. In most occasions you do plan the bachelor party. You know the man do something that he would enjoy doing with the guys. For the speach just think about the good times that you have had with the groom and bride and talk about them and wish them a long and happy marriage. You will also be told some things to do during rehersal.

As a groomsman you....
Plan the bachelor party.
Attend the rehearsal dinner
Walk down the aisle with a member of the bridal party
Wear a butonnier and sometimes, store the rings
Smile pretty
Give a speech during the reception
And of course, assiste the groom on anything that he needs, you might suggest to go golfing the morning of the wedding to ease off pre-wedding jitters.
Good luck

You are in charge of making sure the license is complete, the rings are secure and the men are properly dressed and in place on time.
You are to take charge of any situation that might arise and delegate authority to the appropriate party. Know who the maid of honor is and consult with her as necessary.
Yes, you need to coordinate the bachelor party if the groom wants one, that is between you and the groomsmen.
The speech should be from the heart and not too embarrassing.

You do plan the bachelor party along with the other groomsmen. You have to hold the bride's wedding band during the ceremony until it is needed. And you have to give a toast at the wedding. It's pretty simple.

I was the best man a couple of times myself. Fortunately I never had to plan any sort of party because I suck at that, but the best advice is give your friend GOOD advice and keep him calm. He's going to be nervous as hell and will need a good friend to calm him down. And whatever you do, DON'T SLEEP WITH HIS FIANCE!!!!!! Cheers!
