On the bright side- any activity makes you healthier.

You need to sustain an activity level for 20-40 minutes daily for weight loss. You need to be working moderately-hard during that time. It is difficult to skip rope moderately for that length of time, so walking, biking, swimming, or running may be a better choice.

If you really want a significant weight loss, you need more than that. Maybe you should try running around the neighborhood and all you would need is a good pair of running shoes. Watch what you eat, do your regular excersises religiously and you should be able to shed some pounds.
