I had it a year ago, and I am feeling similar symptoms...
Is it like chicken pox, where you get it once (and then maybe later as an older adult as shingles) or is it like the flu, where it comes and goes through out your life?

I had it twice, and I know two other people who have. I also had chicken pox twice, so I guess some people just don't become completely immune to it the first time around. You CAN keep getting it over and over again and have the ability to pass it, but that is rare. If you feel like you have it again, go to the doctor and get tested. My doctor didn't feel it was necessary to test for it again since I had had it once, but I insisted that my roomate had it and I felt like I had it again, and so she did the test. My doctor was shocked, but sure enough I had mono a 2nd time!

Most people who come down with mono feel much better within two or three weeks, although fatiguefatigue may last for two months or longer. Sometimes the disease lingers for a year or so, causing recurrent attacks that gradually become more mild. In the past, research suggested that the virus causing mono might be linked to a persistent and debilitating form of an illness known as chronic fatigue syndromechronic fatigue syndrome, which can last for years. Most recent research has shown no such link, however, and the cause of chronic fatigue syndrome remains unknown.

Reinfection with mono {Epstein Barr virus} is possible, and possibly occurs with an increased incidence in those with prior infections.
Relapses are common especially with individuals with compromised immune systems.
This virus is in the herpes group, is primarily limited to B-lymphocytes and remains in the patient for life.
