Is this a paraphrase? In the NIV, Galatians 1:6-9 is translated as follows:

6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel—
7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned!
9 As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!

I won't directly answer your question, but I do encourage you and others to interpret these verses yourselves.

These verses clearly indicate that the Great Apostasy was already beginning to take place. Paul said to the Christians of his day, "I marvel that ye are SO SOON REMOVED from him that called you into the grace of Christ UNTO ANOTHER GOSPEL: which is not another; but THERE BE SOME THAT TROUBLE YOU, and would PERVERT THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST." [verses 6-7, KJV, emphasis added]. It is evident that false teachings about Christ were already being taught, even in the days of Paul. Unfortunately many of the Christians were being lulled away by these false teachings, and this is why Paul admonished them with the words "But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach ANY OTHER GOSPEL unto you THAN THAT WHICH WE HAVE PREACHED unto you, let him be accursed." [verse 8, emphasis added; verse 9 basically repeats verse 8]. Does this mean that any angelic visitations are to be discredited? No; even John prophesied that he saw "another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth..." [Rev. 14:6]. What Paul does warn against is teaching things which are contrary to the truth. It is apparent from reading the Bible that shortly after Jesus Christ established his church, some were already turning away from the truth and beginning to teach false doctrines. The apostles held true to the word of Christ, but they were killed off. Over time the truth was lost. There was even a council held in Nicaea in 325, conducted by the Roman Emperor, to settle disputes over the true nature of God. Now the "truth" was being determined by the leader of an empire, who supposedly was a "Christian" and wasn't even baptized until just before he died. Many other forms of Christianity have developed since then, as people attempt to follow what they believe the Bible teaches. Nevertheless, the writings of the apostles do indicate that after a period of apostasy the truth would one day be restored, never to be taken again from the earth.

Just because "Christians" have been teaching the same thing for centuries doesn't mean that is the gospel that Paul taught. Joseph SMith taught the same gospel that Paul did. Amos talk about a famine of the word of God. This describes the Dark Ages where the true gospel was no where to be found on earth. It had been distorted through the centuries and had to be restored through a true prophet.

Joseph Smith started the Mormon church and the real name is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. That church believes in Jesus and the restored gospel that Jesus taught while here on earth so it is not a different religion than the one that Jesus taught. The church became corrupted after the apostles were murdered as the leaders changed many things they had learned. Learn before you speak. I don't know much about Mohammed so I won't say anything about him. And learn how to spell Joseph!

No. The gospel preached by Paul in the early church was one which did not include the doctrine of the trinity (formulated in Nicea in 325 AD) or infant baptism. Rather, the early church practised baptism for the dead (1 Corinthians 15:29). So the "different religion" is the one preached in Christendom today, where infant baptism is practised but baptism for the dead is not, and where the heretical trinity doctrine is taught.

The religion restored by Joseph Smith is the original gospel of Christ.

In addition, and in answer to X-Man, when the book of Revelation was written many of the other books of the Bible had yet to be written. The warning against adding to "this book" refers just to the book of Revelation, not to the New Testament or Bible itself, unless you want to include John's gospel and many of the epistles in your list of unacceptable additions to the Bible.

The LDS people never "deserted Christ for a different religion." After thousands of years of a gradually falling away from the plain and precious truths of the gospel, the fullness of the gospel was restored through Joseph Smith.

And the LDS people haven't "added" anything to the bible. If you ask ANY member of the LDS faith, they will tell you that they don't believe the Book of Mormon is another bible, or an addition to the bible. Along with the Bible, it is another testament of the divinity and life of Jesus Christ.

(I, too, find it funny that "Christians" accuse "Mormons" of altering or adding to the bible, when they have SOOO many different versions...teen, adult, youth, etc... of the bible. I see them everywhere.)

It astonishes me that people have so much misinformation about the LDS church. If you want to know about cars, ask a mechanic...if you want to know about the LDS religion, ask a member. I wouldn't ask a someone who wasn't an auto mechanic to fix my car.

Perhaps, but what would make the Mormons religion such a farce is the Bible itself in The Book of Revelations. Where it specifically says that if any man take away or add to this book, he is doomed. The Morons have added a couple more books to their collection and have attempted to change the Bible to fit their own lifestyle.

I'm pretty sure Mormons believe in Christ (and the entire Bible). In fact I know this since I was raised Mormon. So how would following Joseph Smith be deserting Christ? Please tell me.

FYI: Mormons read the King James version of the Bible. Is that not a 'christian bible'? Anyways, it sounds from your quote that you are reading one of those new, hip, i'm-a-teenager-so-i-don't-understand-anything-but-slang-and-buzzwords bibles. How is that not "attempting to change the Bible"?

Christians and hypocracy just LOVE each other don't they?

Yes, it most definitely is a warning against following "new revelations". The suffering, death, and resurrection of Christ was a perfect and complete fulfillment of OT prophecy. Jesus said that He was "the way the truth and the life"...Jesus asked us to follow Him. Never was it suggested that there would be one who would come after Him and reveal "new truths" or a "new way". The idea of new revelations, that point to a different Gospel, are totally incompatible with the Christian faith.

Yes, it is a warning against any future false prophet who preaches a gospel that differs in any way from what you read in the Christian Bible. This also applies to Scientology, Jehovah's Witnesses, etc.
