I've liked this guy for several years now. We're "friends" but it's a weird relationship. We met when I was in 6th gr. and he was a freshman in H.S. We'd talk on the bus everyday and sometimes on the phone but never really "hung out" in the first 2 years that we knew each other. The next year he drove to school every day and I didn't see him but we occasionaly talked on the phone and he stopped by a few times to talk to me. He's helped me through some really rough times. Last year I was a freshman and he was a senior in the same school, however, we've barely talked. Lately he'll send me a text or an email and then I'll hear nothing again for long periods of time. When he does contact me things are like normal again but then he flirts with me and starts making me wonder if maybe he really does like me? (I told him once, 2 years ago how felt) In one of his recent emails he told me he is going out of state for school. So the ultimate question - how do i go about saying goodbye

Follow your heart is the best thing I can tell you. One thing you should think about is if you will regret not saying something to him before he leaves. I am sure you will both still email but it is best to say your feelings in person.

Well, you never want to live life regretting something you wanted to do but never did. However, examine the situation before you make any moves. Is this just a crush? When I was your age, I had crushes for upperclassmen. Nothing ever came of any of them...only because once they graduated I never pursued any of them. There were times when I wanted to tell the guy how I felt, but then realized that education is more important. Suck up that free education while you can, and then focus on your romance when you're ready for a mature encounter. Most guys aren't ready to settle down so young anyway. I'm 22 and I've been with a guy nearly 4 years. He's still growing up!

You can try, but I fear that if you tell him how you feel he might reject you or hurt you. You don't want to live life with a broken heart, and then again, you don't want to live life with any regrets.

Just take time and evaluate the situation. Is he worth it???

Be careful on this one. You ahve to remember that you guys aren't actually in a relationship and you haven't established any kind of base to support a long distance relationship. You both may be better off just letting it go. He's going off to college regardless of whether you tell him your feelings or not and if you do tell him where can that lead? I know of too many friends who broke up with their year long relationships because of college distances. If things were meant to work out they will. I actually completely messed up my first semester at college because I got into a relationship with a guy a month before I went off to school in Oshkosh. I ended up coming home every weekend and he would come up by me.. it didn't allow me to have a college experience, I just stayed attached to this guy. So, I ended up moving back home and going to a closer university. We broke up and I realized how big of a mistake I made. If I were you I would consider this merely an infatuation and realize that my crush will soon focus onto someone else. The best that could happen is that you guys have a fling and he moves on with his life. It can be pretty heartbreaking.

Spend time with him before he leaves. There isn't enough in this so called relationship to put your life on hold to wait for him or anything. Tell him how you feel and say goodbye. Maybe you can ask if you can keep in contact while he's away and if he comes home to visit you can hang out too.

I would let him know how you feel about him. That way though you are far apart he knows. You will miss his friendship and if he says he will msis yours too you know you may have something going. If you truly like him like that don't hold back your feelings about him because you two already have a good friendship going. The most important thing is that you keep that good friendhship even when he is miles away. No you are not crazy, and I hope this works out.

Honey tell him the truth you really like him, you wish you had said all this to him before now but you really want him to think about it and if its possible then you could vist each other talk regularly and see how it goes. Some long distance relationships do work.

Maybe tell him that you really value his friendship and will miss him and would like to take him out somewhere fun as a goodbye present. Chances are if he's going of to school if you tell him you like him he will be like okay and you will feel kinda awkward and it could ruin your friendship so just be cool.

My boyfriend moved 1200 miles away from me, and then he wound up in the hospital after crashing his truck. It killed me that I couldn't be there for him. I love him and I have told him that pretty much every night. If he moved away with no sign of him coming back, I don't think that I would wait for him. Good Luck.
