It is a little disturbing. On the other hand, it isn't any stranger then those people who have their pets stuffed and mounted. This way at least you can keep part of the cat useful.

Oh it definately depends on the breed of cat. Breed determines wheather a cat is short, medium or long haired and if it's course, medium or fine. If the fur isn't lusterous and shiney, could indicate illness. Genetics and nutrition also. I've heard that olive oil helps make it shinier. There are several different types of hairs that make up the coat. Long, harsh guard hairs form the outer coat; medium length awn hairs are beneath these; soft, short downy hairs that are curly or crimped insulate the body near the skin. Most cats have a specific ratio of these various kinds of hairs, with some being shed and others growing in at any given time. But some cats have an unusual ratio of these various types of hairs, which give the coat the distinctive look that distinguishes some breeds. For instance, the Rex breeds have curly fur made up of the curly undercoat, while the Angora has very long silky (not fluffy) fur, and Persians have all three types of hairs in abundance. And some breeds like Maine Coon cats have a weather-resistant outer coat that may take a couple of years to reach its full growth. When a cat is not fully mature, they don't have an abundance of under fur, which will make them appear more silky than fluffy. By the time they reach full maturity they will have had time to grow into their own skin and fur.

you're a freak, you're just waiting for him to die. weirdo! I have a soft cat to but I have never thought to ever do that when she passes. that's not really even normal for you to even think that right now. if you really truly loved your cat then you wouldn't be observing how to make earmuffs with his fur! get a life!

OK, that does sound very weird! I am a cat LOVER and I have cats with very soft fur, but the idea of taking his fur and making anything out of it just gives me gooseflesh. I don't think it is a good idea, but it is good to hear you love your cat!

Not really, and with the right taxidermist/furrier- you could do it.I knew a guy that I wanted to make a purse out of part of his anatomy, but laws about human bodies are not quite so liberal, and his relatives were against it even though he was all for it. He had a full back tattoo...what did you think?! lol It was gorgeous, now it's gone. He wanted to keep showing it off.

Someone I know found a place that could make a scarf out of the fur his Malamut shed. Maybe that would be an okay alternative.

Instead of waiting until he dies, and having him skinned (ick!), why don't you brush him a lot now, and save the fur. You can have it knitted into mittens, scarves, sweaters...
That's actually not that uncommon. Angora sweaters are made from the fur of cats.

That is disgusting. I don't care how soft his fur is. I think it is horrible that you are even thinking about this. It seems to me that you care more about your cat's fur than about your cat. My cats are very special to me. They are like part of the family. I would never sit around thinking about when they are dead. It is morbid and disgusting and you are one sick person.

that is seriously disturbed... I love cats and have several, but I would never dream of doing anything like that. I hear some people take pets to a taxidermist and maybe have them stuffed...but I wouldn't even do that.
totally freaky, dude!
