I think that he should have personally. This child is your half sister/brother. You all the right to get to know him or her if you so chose to. But that's just my two cents.

Should he have? We all have should have, could have, would have's in our lives I'm sure he didn't intend for anyone else to find out either....if in fact he knew he had this other child. If your Dad took responsibility for the "other" child eventhough he did not tell you and your siblings then give him credit for that. We all have "skeletons in our closets" after we are grown. He has to deal with the consequences for this not you or your siblings. If you are crazy about your Dad, love him anyway and don't stay angry about a bad choice he made 18 years ago. If you aren't crazy about your Dad, then what difference does it make? Life goes on. He can't change it

Yes. All parents should tell their children that they have other siblings if there are any. This should be done to prevent any embarrassing situations. If the parent had children with someone else they should not hide it. I have a half-brother or sister, and I don't know their name or where they are. My parents feel that it would be to much of a conflict between the families. Not on my behalf. I want to know all of my family, even if we never get to meet each other, at least we will know.

Maybe he was not proud of his actions.
Was he still with your mother when this child was conceived?
Kids take sides and it might have made the family unit very uncomfortable.
I'm glad you found out now. Will you include this young person with your family?

He should have been honest with his children and told them of the other child. It wasn't fair for them to find from other people.

yes, my father told me and my brothers when we were in or teens, that we had a sister.. it rocked the house for little but, everything worked out and we love her just as if she grew up in the same house with us.. so its a good thing tell them but make sure they are old enough to understand first...

Well I would say yes, it is part of your family. You can't deny that. I think it is weird that he waited that long.
