You can find some "quick and easy" comparisons here:

http://www.christiangateway.com/library/quickfacts/

http://selectsmart.com/RELIGION/description.htm
(Pentecostal is found under Conservative Christian)

http://www.whichreligion.com/

I've tried to find sites without any particular bias... not an easy thing to do! Everybody else seems to have their own little agenda in defining these groups. I am not a member of any of these groups and don't.

My best to you

Mormons are not Christians by the same definition as anyone from any Protestant, Catholic, or Orthodox Church. They believe that the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are three separate gods. Furthermore, every Mormon man believes that if he is worthy, someday he will be given his own planet to populate and rule over.

If you don't believe me, find the nearest Mormon missionary and ask. When I did that, the guy said, 'Oh yes, it's a big part of our hope. If I get to the hereafter and find out it isn't going to be that way, it'll be a really unpleasant surprise...'

Pentecostals are Protestants who believe that the gifts of the Holy Spirit (prophecy, tongues, healing, etc.) are 'for today'. Their worship services are very long (3 hours) and include large amounts of praise singing, prophecies (i.e. words from the Lord)and other gifts being manifested, and of course a sermon.

Quakers believe in the Light(1), and have traditionally understood that light to be Jesus - whether or not the person in question has ever heard of Jesus. They have traditional testimonies based on the Bible, such things as simplicity, not using titles(2), not bearing arms (they are one of the traditional 'peace churches')(3), not swearing(4), not celebrating holidays(5).

Actually, these testimonies are viewed very positively: we take only 'our share' of the world's goods, we give honor only to God, we respect the life of all human beings, no matter what they have done or who they are, we have only one standard of honesty, we view every day as holy, etc.

Their Meetings are just that: they take place in an unadorned building - no crosses or other religious symbols. They gather in silence and wait for the Spirit to move. And when the Spirit moves, someone will stand up and speak. Then everyone will consider in their hearts what has been said, continuing to worship God silently. Then someone else may be led to speak. And this goes on for about an hour.

Although to the best of my knowledge they have never rejected electricity or anything like that (it's the Amish who do that to this day), they did used to have a distinctive appearance (a little different from the Amish).

But for the most part this is not the case anymore. On the other hand, giving the appearance of trying to attract attention by the way you dress would be viewed as unsuitable and possibly get you 'eldered' - someone will approach you privately and gently admonish you, fulfilling in this instance the 'office' of an elder.

Since the Quakers do not have any clergy, this obliges the Meeting as a whole to take on these types of responsibilities jointly on behalf of each other. God can speak through anyone - male, female, small child, very old person (was going to say 'little old lady', but then I remembered they use titles such as lord - and lady is the feminine of lord - to honor God only...), Quaker, Jew, Muslim, Hindu...

Quakers also place a very high value on education. They were the folks who were teaching persons of African descent in the States to read, back when that was still illegal; to this day, they run really high-quality private schools for all ages from nursery on up through college, which are open and welcoming to persons of all religious persuasions.

It's difficult for me to say any more, because basically everything I know about Quakerism is from experience, rather than from 'book knowledge'...

I'm LDS (Mormon) We believe in the Book of Mormon as well as the BIble. We believe in living prophets and apostles. The two guys in your neighborhood that were suits and ride bicycles going door-to-door are Mormon and they can tell you a lot about our church.

As far as I know Pentacostals believe mostly in speaking in strange tongues. There are different types, but I think they all use Acts 2 as a basis.

I know hardly anything about Quakers. I think there's a lot in the new England area. They make good oatmeal ;-)
