The police CAN do something if they are on your property. Call them and tell them there is someone trespassing on your property and making noise and that you can't sleep. Keep calling them until they do something. You can start a petition among your neighbors to get something done about it. You could get a big mean dog and keep him tied to the porch.

I like the idea about playing Manilow CDs. Play them nice and loud. And maybe start keeping your uncovered trash cans on your porch - especially if they're good and stinky. Have fish for dinner a lot and that should help.

I have heard that if people hang around in one place for a period of time something like longer then 3 hours it is considered loitering and then the police have the right to move them on...especially also if you report a disturbance ie they are making noise etc...the police will log the time you complained and I suppose all you can do is if they hang around over the allotted time phone the police again and hope they move them on...good luck its a difficult one..sorry I don't have clearer details but it might be worth checking into...eventually they wont want to hang around there drinking etc if they know the police are likely to patrol the area.

it really does seem the only option is for you to move. Have you tried a YMCA? they usually have rooms that you can rent that are cheap. You could also look into moving to a different hostle in a quieter area. If these are no good for you then why dont you try some sleeping pills so you can sleep all night coz it seems to me that you are a light sleeper. consult your doctor about them. good luck!

Depends where you are. In England there are laws against anti social behaviour and the police should be able to move them on. If they are in a hostel then you can complain to their manager again and if that goes nowhere complain to his superiors. I work in a hostel myself and although its very difficult to control what people do outside the property, it can have consequences for their tenancies if they cause trouble with the neighbours.

Sorry to hear of your predicament. Its disgraceful when the police do nothing about this sort of thing. Have you tried the environmental officer at your council?
Actually, playing naff music is not as daft as it sounds, some shops have done it successfully to stop teenagers from congregating outside.

maybe try talking to the culprits and tell them to have a bit more respect....tell them to use a bin bag for there rubbish..and keep the noise down....and if you get cheek or threats from them...that is a good enough reason for the police to be called...and if they still dont do anything...write to the local mp...or whoever is in authority were you live and get it sorted.....if all that fails...go get a 2.2 and start capping the scum.....and theyll soon stop apearing outside your door...all the best(vandil grease the stepps or railings they sit at to)

If they don't live there then they can be legally trespassed, or cited with disturbing the peace. And the housing manager can really do anymore than you can do yourself. You could call the magistrate and drop this in his lap and see about pressing this.

anti-social behaviour orders all round! the Police should have a community liaison officer, go to him and ask for a clamp down, they are breaking the law by "disrupting the peace", "being drunk and disorderly" and by littering, the Police should have the power to move them on, and then ASBO them if nothing changes.
