if it is a pimple use a hot damp cloth to help bring it to the surface.
Cold Sores sometimes may look like a pimple but they last a lot longer and hurt. If you have a cold sore then ask your doctor to get you Zoverax Cream. This will help kill the virus and shorten the duration of the sore.
Hope that helps

What are cold sores?
Sometimes called canker sores or fever blisters, cold sores are painful ulcers that develop around the lips and on the insides of the cheeks and gums. They have several different causes-from drug reactions to infections to autoimmune diseases-that produce the same symptoms. There is usually a hypersensitive feeling for a day or two in the area before a blister appears. The blister breaks and then becomes a shallow hollow, or ulcer, surrounded by red or yellow tissue. After a week or so a crust is formed. The lesions can occur as multiple sores and are extremely painful. They last an average of 7 to 10 days and often recur.
Since there are many different causes of cold sores, see a physician for an accurate diagnosis. Treatment depends on the cause. Because they are painful, part of the treatment is aimed at pain relief. An over-the-counter medication such as Anbesol or Ora-Jel will help relieve the pain.
You should rinse the sore with warm salt water to prevent a secondary infection. There is no evidence that taking lysine, an amino acid, shortens the duration of the sores. Other home remedies such as taking vitamin C or zinc or exposing the sores to artificial light have proved equally ineffective. Exposure to sunlight has been shown to be a factor in causing some of these annoying sores. If you are susceptible to these outbreaks, protect your lips from sunburn with zinc oxide, a sun block, rather than with a sunscreen.

Crazy cuz I just had the exact same thing and wasnt sure if it was a cold sore or a pimple!! I don't think it is a cold sore...I am pretty sure it is a pimple and it will just go away, but unfortunately it seems to hang on a little longer than normal zits. I tried popping, but then it came back like 2 days later...but then it just went away another day or 2 later. I did put a warm rag on it which seemed to help because it was a little sore....But as much as it sucks, I think you just gotta let this one live it's course!!

Herpes cold sores don't look like whiteheads. They are usually a cluster of little read bumps or a bigger read sore and they feel hot and swollen at first. Then they eventually turn crusty. Sounds like you have a pimple in an uncomfortable spot. Just pop it and wait it out, no need to see a doctor if it clears up in a week.

I had something like that when I was in sixth grade. I made the mistake of popping it & it grew into a sore that was almost the size of a dime. It took months to heal! As an adult, I now get cold sores quite often but they do not look like pimples. They take a week or so to heal & I use peroxide and neosporin several times a day for treatment. That seems to work the fastest. Those meds you buy don't work as well as they claim & they are very expensive.

It doesn't sound like a fever blister/cold sore/herpes. It sounds like a pimple.
If it is right on the outside edge of your lip, it could be that you are allergic to your lip liner or lip gloss/lipstick.
As most dermatologists will tell you, do not "pop" your pimples. You can buy drying cream to put on it. Clearasil or whatever. But don't pop it, it'll hurt a heckuva lot worse and could leave a scar or a permanent red splotch.

First of all, having a cold sore does not mean you 'sucky sucky wrong person' like someone said. They are very common and sores from the genitals rarely get passed on to the mouth anyway. Sometimes peoples' ignorance is shocking.
That being said, go to the store and get Herpecin (looks like a big tube of chap-stic), campho-phenique, or vitamin-E stick/oil. I've heard that Abreva works well but don't know. Just don't pick it, keep it clean and dry and medicated. It will go away, whatever it is.

Okay, I get cold sores and they are nothing to be ashamed about. The ones I have gotten are usually a small cluster of red bumps that will hurt and tingle and itch. It sounds like what you have could just be a pimple but if it is really painful then don't break it and see your doctor, it could be something else called a boil that can spread.

Cold sores announce themselves usually by being itchy, then a small bump which may or may not turn into small water blisters that turn larger, may crack open and bleed.
Some people believe that perfume dabbed on it heals it, actually its the alchohol that dries it up. There are creams specifically for cold sores at any drug store, small tube will set you back about $3
If in doubt have it checked out.
