Just found out a work colleague had been trying to discredit me with clients,so as to get them to ask for a transfer to his unit instead of mine...
How do l relate with him; without pretending?He's always so friendly on the surface.

l found out from a client,Chiloveit....she told me (after l had finished her contract) to watch my back since my colleague was telling clients (herself included) that l was no good,my work was shoddy etc;
This client said she had a bad gut feeling about this and decided to try me anyway.She was SO impressed with my work that she's advertising me all over -and she's pretty influential.

Yes,it is shocking ,isn't it Ice-Queen?
l mean ,he could just promote his own image and advertise himself to get ahead...why discredit me secretly while smiling to my face?

Don't own his/her life. Let them say whatever they want about you. Don't rise to it. Humour them- this will wind them up even more. Professionalism is not about stamping on other people's toes to get ahead. I would not give your colleaugue the time of day.... if you cannot go on without a fight, then I would tell them that i am aware of their rumours and show them that you are upset. But never ex people out of your life, that's a very negative thing to do.

How did you find this information out? Was it from a friend-coworker, client or someone else? Do you know for sure that it is true? Maybe it is just someone trying to start trouble for you or him. Have you seen any evidence that this is possibly true? If so, you can talk to him about this-although he will probably lie, or your boss-who may know nothing about it. Maybe your boss with be able to do something to make it seem more fair. There will always be competition in that type of workplace. So I would try to talk to them calmly about this. Then I would just do my best to provide for my clients and not focus on the dimwhits in the office. If you find out that this rumor has truth, then you definitely need to confront him and tell him that you do not appreciate his tactic and that this should be a teamwork type of environment and if he is out to play games of talking bad about you that he is not much of a person. Then tell him not to be so jovial around you from now on, because you do not need his friendly bullshit to liven your day. Tell him to be himself around you from now on and be the conniving little prick he is. Then smile and leave. Go about your business with out worrying about him and just do your best at your job. There is not much else to do at that point.

You have proof of this? Then it's a meeting with the immediate superior to both of you, on your own, with your evidence. Let the superior take it from there.
The man's behaviour is unprofessional - it reflects badly on the company as a whole.
As for 'relating' to him, once he's been dealt with, quiet contempt but utter professionalism.
That makes you look good and serves to make him look even smaller to anyone who knows.

get some hard evidence, such as testimony from clients, or some papers ("accidentally" xeroxed from documents at his desk), memos indicating that he is trying to steal your business... once you obtain the evidence you need to present them in a clear manner to your supervisors. Act logically and without a lot of anger; you don't want to seem paranoid. As far as relating to him, don't show that you are investigating him, just act normally and very businesslike.. you don't want him to suspect ... before the "axe" falls on him. good luck

Shocking. Confront him, calmly and ask if he thinks the clients will consider him professional or ethical? They probably think he is a tosser too.
O then take him in the car park and give him a kicking when no one is looking.

Definitely talk to your manager about it. If there is some way for the manager to call him on it without disclosing that he found out from you, that would be cool.

First off, confront him with what you know and see how he deals with it, if he denies it and keeps it up then get your manager in on the action! Fair is fair!

Talk to you your manager & request a conference with him also. I woud also report this to HR.
