It doesn't hurt at all during the surgery cuz you will be drugged, but afterwards you will have some mild pain, but nothing tylenol or ibuprofen can't fix. If i remember right, when i had all four of mine done at the same time, i had stitches all the way--I think they desolved on their own in about 4 weeks, but the swelling and pain was gone in about a week. All people are different so you may have no pain, or no swelling--hard to tell!

I had all 4 out at once. They gave me a drug through an IV so I could sleep through it, they also used local anesthetic. They gave me a prescription for a painkiller afterwards. I had soreness for a couple of days, no other problems. Very little swelling. I had gone to a really good oral surgeon. Also I think some people get more swelling than others. I didn't feel like doing much for a couple of days either. For a couple of days I also just ate liquids and soft foods.

I had all 4 of mine done at once too, I thought it would only take a couple days so I took 2 days off from work. I could have used 4!
Really it is different for everyone, the swelling will go down in a couple of days but it can still hurt after that. For me, I also had brusing on my cheeks for at least a week. It wasn't fun but I was glad I got it over with in one shot!

the pain is not bad at all if done under anesthesia. the dentist will give you pain meds, like Vicodin or Percocet, for when the anesthesia wears off. some people don't tolerate those drugs well (they get stomach aches) so if you have never taken pain meds and don't know what your reaction to them will be, take them with Zantac or Prilosec (both OTC stomach ache meds). And don't hesitate to have your dentist put you on another type of drug if the one he originally prescribes doesn't work for you. You really have to stand up for yourself with doctors and dentists.

Recovery is different for everyone, but probably 3 days minimum and 1 week maximum. I didn't have a lot of swelling, but I held ice packs on my face for the first day or two. The ice really helped. Good Luck!

Mine didn't hurt at all. I got all 4 removed at the same time as well. They put an IV in your arm and your asleep pretty much the whole time...at least I was. Afterwards, your mouth will be sore for a few days, but you can take pain reliever which helps and eat soft foods. They give you some stuff that you have to spray in your mouth...I can't remember what it was called, but it's supposed to help keep it from getting dry socket. It really wasn't that bad, at least not for me.

I removed two of my older daughter's wisdom teeth at 2:00 in the afternoon and told her to go home and lie down until dinner time. Before I got home, she had already left for the mall! I was rather angry, because I figured that she'd be moaning all night long and asking me what to do for the pain. Much to my happy surprise, she seemed just fine. She said that she waited until the numbness started to go away and she felt pretty good, so she decided to get up and go.

Same thing with my son. We were actually headed home from a drum lesson and he asked if we could stop in the office to check out the sore place in his mouth. It turned out to be an erupting wisdom tooth. He asked if I felt like taking it out right then, so I did. (I was afraid he might change his mind if he thought about it overnight.) His mom didn't even know he had a wisdom tooth taken out until he had to take the gauze out of his mouth to eat dinner. His uppers were both kind of difficult and he had trouble healing with one of them (sinus involvement), but that didn't last for more than 3 or 4 days.

With my third child, I took her to the oral surgeon, because the roots were sort of close to the nerve and _I_ didn't want to be the one to cause her any trouble if things got difficult. She had nitrous oxide and little bit of iv sedation and had all four removed at once. I wanted to get her right home, but she asked me to stop off at the mall before we went home. She insisted that she was okay. Instead of going home and lying down, she walked through the mall. Yes, she was biting on her gauze packs (in the mall!), but still she was a lot more active than I would recommend. She had no trouble at all healing. I think she went out that night, too. (It was 1999, so I don't remember the details.)

I'm not saying that they are ALL like this, but there are wisdom teeth and then there are w*!`S^D@m TEETH!!! I always say that wisdom teeth (and root canals, by the way) are like teenagers. At least 90% are no trouble at all, but everybody talks about the bad ones.

well when i had my teeth pulled i had 8 at the same time and i was givin drugs to fall asleep ask for the same and you wont feel a thing other than the needle for anesthetics to make you fall asleep, the recovery time is about 3 days then you can go and do whatever but still be carful for about another week, their isn't much swelling.

It won't hurt because you'll be put under. Afterwards, you will be on some really good drugs that will keep you knocked out for the most part. No dental surgery feels nice, but you won't be suffering either. Just be sure to follow directions with regards to rinsing your mouth out... no smoking (if you do)... and be sure you have someone there to help you. You'll be just fine in a few days. :-)

Best wishes!

The needle to inject the novocaine is the worst part. I had all 4 of mine done at once. There was no cutting or stitches involved, though, because all mine were through the gums. I wish I had mine removed much earlier because I feel so much better now - Less pain with them, better breath, less sinus drainage and hardly any heartburn.

Every I know has had a different experience. But you should be good to go in a few days at the most. Some people are fine the next day. Just stock up on ice cream and popsicles, and lots of good books, dvd's and stuff. Good Luck!!!
